this perhaps isn't the best place, but given much of the thread, ill say that 15 years ago on the porn side of the internet it was all about more tags, not less. more and hyper specific tags so that you can find exactly what you are looking for. however in the last 5ish years the tags have been getting merged, more to consolidate them into popular categories. personally i think its a crime against porn as a whole to merge tags like that especially when they have nothing to do with each other. but thats the state of every porn site on the internet these days. tags like femdom end up broad. it is what it is. i mean back then the mere notion of a "futa/trans" tag would have been insulting as futa is absolutely not the same as trans. trans is someone born one gender and TRANSitioning to another, the "dude with tits" as some would call it. traditionally this would have been the "newhalf" tag. but futa is a genetically female person who happens to have a dick, sometimes through magic or some sci-fi means. literally a chick with a dick. but most importantly has BOTH parts, fully functional. the phase out of vaginas on futa's is another victim of these tag mergers, and only lends to the overall confusion over what the heck some of these tags even mean.
the fact that you can find on multiple sites these ridiculous breakdowns of tag sub categories proves this push towards merging them for the sake of "discoverability" has failed spectacularly. in some cases the meanings have degraded so far that there are sub categories for their subcategories, and even those should actually be a completely different tag. like the NTR tag. theres like 8 fucking sub categories, and then the subcategories have sub categories. netorare is the one actually associated with the tag proper, mc's wife/girlfriend bangs another guy, and then she falls for the other guy and leave the mc. very simple, and beyond my understanding as to why anyone would like it. but that should be that. however Netori, is where the MC is the one doing the girl stealing, its a complete reverse scenario, literally the opposite of netorare, (and i can at least understand why some people would be into that one) yet both things now fall under the exact same tag. thats madness i say. then yet still there is netorase, which the mc makes their wife/girlfriend sleep with someone else, but that is basically the same as the sharing tag now. and then what about the cheating tag? on this site the only difference seems to be whether or not the mc knows the gf is banging someone else. but knowing about it doesn't magically make it stop being cheating and become ntr. the two things effectively mean the same thing going on.
tags have been rendered nearly pointless. completely opposite things are merged into one tag, along with other 3rd sub categories that render other tags they would fit better with entirely superfluous. i dont know what exactly happened to porn sites lately to have cause such insane levels of tag degradation. but this shits gotta stop. otherwise every comment section, like this one here, will inevitably turn into the same trash pile that is fapnations comment section. and all because tags have become meaningless, too broad, and have bunched up groups of people that would rather fight each other over their inane politics rather than jerk off in peace. keep that shit outta my porn sites. and stop fucking up my god damn porn tags...
TLDR, you have to do homework for every site you use to figure out what the tags there mean because tag mergers have made 80% of tags basically meaningless.
EDIT: in hindsight this may have turned into mad ramblings. the lack of porn tag precision just really riles me up, and its 3am and ive not slept in 30 hours. on the plus side, anyone who posts about the definitions or tries to argue on the thread further beyond this will look even crazier, so maybe it will dissuade them from adding more bs. dont let f95 become fapnation here.
