If you use up all of the puzzle elements... you have to die to restart? A bit annoying since you cannot immediately tell what each thing does.

Waiting for a save on this, sadly.

The floor with the two red flames above the Spawn Book...is it even beatable? Because I can't see anything that could destroy that stupid Spawn Book.

You need to aggravate the spirit and take it exactly under the door and at the moment when you kill it the door opens for a couple of seconds and you need to have time to enter the door

I literally tried that, and it doesn't work for some reasons
