anyone know why in the download is a windows installer package and not game files?
My guess is that it's going to want to set up git or glusulxuf or whatever is used to interpret these games.

EDIT: (as much as I talk about these games, I sure don't understand them very well)

The most likely reason the save failed to load is because you have to have the exact same game version his save is from to open the game. Otherwise it always fails.
WHAT? thats so damn stupid how would u ever load ur older saves for newer vers of the game then?
also uh so how on earth do you edit your file to have all them high levels of stats anyway notepad + or something?

There is a Save Import and Export system for carrying saves across from previous versions. Save editing can be done with Notepad, though editing things beyond stat increases the chance of unforeseen consequences.

The save file I uploaded should be for the newest version available from their blog. If you want to edit the save yourself you export a new game, open up FSCharacterSave.glkdata using Notepad++ and you edit the numbers on line 7 (should be one 17 and five 12's), save the file, then Import the game.

Just FYI the import takes quite a while to load in my experience.

Not necessarily every time they make a change to the git repository a new download link is generated so the game version is almost always diffrent. Even one tiny change can make your saves obselete. Thats why they have the Import and Export save features. Easiest way to check is to start a new game at the top when the game starts you'll see something like this.

Welcome to...

Flexible Survival
An Interactive Fiction by Nuku Valente
Release 66 / Serial number 190322 / Inform 7 build 6M62 (I6/v6.33 lib 6/12N) D

this tells you the exact version you have if your version is diffrent from theirs it won't load the save.

Other than that the only other reason if you have the same version of the game that the save won't load is your using one interperter and they're using another.

Hey, guys. I'm one of the writers for Flexible Survival. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me here, although I do recommend trying out our Discord server too.

PS: The monthly update blog post went up earlier today.

Huh, used to play this game ages ago. I remember being capable of hunting for specific events but can't seem to anymore, was something changed?

There were a few tweaks to hunting, but you should still be able to hunt for events. Don't forget that it's not a guaranteed chance, so it might take more than one try. Also, you might have to try typing the full title of the event.

Does anyone know how to edit how much time til evacuation? I don't mean events I mean boosting the overall time to whatever you wish. I'd like to see about getting an ending after being lost in the city for a few months.

Trixie has a cheat to allow you to play on. You can turn it off again when you want to have an ending.

If you beat him enough times, then he'll mention stuff about the lair, and then you can do the 'Entrance to the Lair' event

Regarding cheating with CE, the values are stored as multiples of 256. So easy enough to cheat stats on character creation and health in game, if mildly tedious for the former.

Man, this game is awesome. Or rather, it was pretty awesome and had a lot of potential. Over the last couple of months the update cycle has gotten worse and worse, updates coming later and later, they've gone through terrible patreon schemes and release rollouts, character polls and surveys that have made the game awkward, and more recently, lacking a lot of new content (Apart from art. But it's a text game, you know?) Not to mention that the ability to edit the wiki is locked behind the asinine multiplayer account system which means that the wiki gets VERY rarely updated, not to mention they disabled comments on the blog posts so you HAVE to make a discord to report a bug. Then they locked a lot of content behind levels. People complaining about only finding latex foxes because grinding in a time-restrained game is fucking dire. You have to cheat to see all the content now, and only the hardcore sim-loving dudes will manage to jerk off to dying of dehydration.

There's so much good, fetish-rich content that nobody will ever find out about because they can't get into the game. I have to do this and cheat a new character every time an update does come out because it's not worth hours of grind each time. You know how many quests are hidden, barely touched by the wiki? Chance encounters, interesting people or chains of events? Or the stupidity of meeting someone multiple times but not being able to progress their story because you need to be a much higher level despite the fact you don't have to fight anything. (Garth, the Razorback Boar, for instance, can be met early and his event chain can be triggered, but walls you out if you're not level 12. It doesn't even give you any indication you're too low leveled too.)

Sorry to hear that you're not enjoying the game, and I'll try to address some of the issues.

We've always been doing the bulk of our updates on a monthly basis, usually the first Sunday or Monday of the month. It's true that the last few months have been a bit light on content, and that's because many of the writers have had real life interfere in one way or another. That just means that the content that they were working on is merely pushed back, and it will come on a later day, along with whatever other projects they're working on.

The survival/time aspects of the game were a lot more manageable in the earlier stages of the game, but like you said, now there is just a ton of content to explore. While you're not meant to get everything in one playthrough, Trixie's cheat menu is there to turn off things so that you can focus on exploring.

As for having to report on Discord, sorry if it's not to your liking, but it does make it easier for us since it consolidates bug reports in a single place.

You shouldn't need to make a new character every time an update comes out because of the export/import system. You export your character on the version that you've been playing on and then importing it to the newest version.

Besides Garth, what content are you trying to access that is level-locked? As far as I'm aware, most writers don't put level restrictions on their content. If what you are trying to access is a real bother, I can bring it up with the others to see if we can reduce requirements and such.

Ya see, because there's so many people working on so many different aspects it turns people who just want to play the game without getting heavily involved in the community confused. Blog posts are the main source for many a porn game nowadays and if there isn't enough information readily available, and not hidden behind server pins, lists, forum chats and wikis, then it just becomes irritating. I didn't know that about Mondays and Sundays, just seemed to me that updates were coming in later and later and lesser and lesser because there was just less coming in. As annoying as certain authors making blog posts saying they're sick every couple of weeks, it's still helpful to know what's going on too.

It's nice that ya'll are acknowledging this kinda' feedback outside of the forum, site and discord too, but there needs to be a few quicker, anonymous, ways to do so. Like the blog comments - I mean, it's only one page a month to read, right? And then anyone can drop some feedback. Like, the survival shit is cool - and would make a great number of additional kinks and things if those concepts were actually fleshed out. (Like whoring yourself out is a neat idea, but the scav scenes are weak and the shag shack isn't too impressive, or viable if you're a male) Whilst you could invite a whole host of somnophiliacs to like the game if there were actually scenes for it. (Hell, even I'd write scenes for all kinda' content voluntarily if there was just a blog detailing what's what in a little detail - like ).

And it's funny too that you mention saving and loading, because it breaks multiple aspects of the game and for some reason as it blocks events from happening. On all my imported saves you can't get the imp's encounter that leads to Skarnoth's library content to trigger at all and have to make a new character (And thus go through the cheat rigamarole to breeze through it, unless you fancy a tonne of grinding again). Similarly, the system is broken in a few other places - you can't do anything after turning on the power regarding the showers (and the scenes therein with relate characters) if you import a save, can't progress the boar's encounters, can't do a lot of Alexandra's content because it just won't trigger. Would have reported it in the blog, as I've done with other stuff, but with comments disabled I don't quite fancy linking my discord to a porn one. (Even a degenerate has standards, apparently.)

Regarding the level gating, it's a problem in conjunction with the saving. You won't encounter half the enemies at low level in exploration or scavenging, and if you're a new player who's never cheating you may never progress past level 3 or so and see the encounters, making it easy to dismiss the game as lacking content (As some have in this thread). There was an update a while ago that just brings up the "Seems you're missing a pre-requisite" message, but doesn't tell you what it is. I know it's impossible to go through everything and point it out, but that "pre-requisite" can be a level gate or something entirely asinine - not to mention if you import a high level character above it you have to then go and level up again, or start a new character and manually grind behemoths to level back up to it.

At the end of the day, it's smut, ya know? I'd ask that you can give back some of the tools to the community to keep people happy. Let anons edit the wiki (Can always be moderated like any other Wiki), or comment on the blog. There's potential supporters put off by things, or people who aren't getting as far as wanting to support because the game is overwhelming at a glance (I mean, this has to be THE biggest text based game online, right?) and just end up giving up.

I've probably gone a bit overboard, but it's a couple years coming I suppose.
