Nope, the reason I started doing that was exactly because of the fear of them disappearing, for me it started when some Japanese artists complained that their stuff was being pirated to E-Hentai after release quickly, so E-Hentai took down a TON of amazing scans, and no, that was before the existence of Fakku/Irodori etc

One of them is an artist called LINDA, the guy was genuinely at the time probably the best hentai artist and his stuff was revered online for the art style, in a single day nearly everything was taken down everywhere, from E-Hentai all the way to another forum called Akiba, it was a simultaneous take down and his stuff actually for a while became lost media, infact, some of his niche works DID become lost media, it was because he was popular a ton of people recommissioned and rescanned his stuff, I actually commissioned 3 of his works to be scanned and it's literally the scans that are shared today lol

It was all thanks to a great member here for even entertaining my request and sharing their works, because aside from that one single link on this forum, it's basically completely lost media. and that's from a big artist too, so imagine stuff from smaller artists...

Relatable, lost media is one of the things that annoys me the most no matter the reason. I keep backups of my favorite creators just in case they disappear one day or I lose access to the archives of them I've found online, especially since some of them aren't that popular.

The only time it's ever actually come up for me is when one of the first creators who I subbed to whose works I really liked and who got me interested in hentai animations in the first place (Anparu98) went offline, completely nuking their Gumroad store, Patreon, socials, etc. I was able to fill in a handful of missing content from their thread on this site with my own collection (even if I missed 2 months because lazy me 3 years ago only saved the dead Google drive links for those months instead of the actual stuff), and after contacting someone on Sankaku who also collected their stuff, was able to patch together all variants of one of my favorite videos of theirs. What's kinda annoying is that many of the leaks of Anparu's content floating around online come from a Chinese uploader who added their own small but noticeable watermark in the corner, so without me and the other guy uploading our copies, there's a good chance that the original releases would've become lost media.

Shameless plug, but does anyone know any good sites other than anime-sharing.com where people upload content from Dlsite? I've been searching for the limited time bonuses for RJ01068930 and RJ01068934, two animations that were released mid-2023 with bonuses you could get if you downloaded them within a time limit, and all the working downloads I can find are missing the bonus videos.

while i can definitely understand where you're coming from, for me personally i've found that adopting that mindset quickly escalates until i'm so focused on making sure everything is neatly catalogued for future reference that i fail to realize i'm missing out on the experiences i'm trying so hard to preserve. this may not apply to you, since obviously this is very much a personal problem. i've just found that a TON of people tend to run into issues regarding this "compulsion to preserve things for future reference" foible.

Fair enough, I actually kinda agree with you; I used to try to catalogue as much as I could but I've gotten much more efficient at it over the years to maximize storage space and cut down on bloat. Nowadays I only ever keep like the highest resolution/quality versions of stuff, sorted in folders by creator name and a six figure date format. Stuff like PSD files, subtitles in languages I don't speak, preview gifs I toss since I never make use of them. I just download the original media into the right folder, compress a copy and rename it something I can identify, then plop the copy into a single large folder I can conveniently browse through.
