The game has two options menus, the one you use the TAB key to open in-game, and the other in the top left corner. The correct one is the TAB menu, and the other menu is best left in Japanese, because if you leave it in English, the texts in the game disappear.
I see you dont have Mushroom Girl, you can capture her if you cum on her 3 times in a row, use the masturbate skill.

The pillars with green orbs are the save points, but to load a saved game, you have to use the second button on the start menu, not the first one. The first one is essentially New Game, the second is Load Game.
Like I mentioned in an earlier post, those items are Key Items, or items that have a use in terms of interacting with the world around you, and thus can't be equipped. They have cost of 2 by default, but I think that's just because a system to label them as key items properly hasn't been made yet.
That gateway not working after using the orb is not a glitch, I don't think. The room it leads just isn't finished. Also, for the captures...well.

Yeah, the tutorial isn't in this build. However, it should be in the next one when the game becomes a full demo. As for where to go, the point for this is to explore and see how the game works and what's built so far. I get your point, I'm just saying that the "direction" is hard to put there since the map isn't all that extensive yet. It has. It's just that the buttons in the main menu are Japanese, so no one notices at first. The second button is a "Load Game" button, which is how you'd continue a saved game, whereas the first button is a "New Game" button. The green orb pillars are save points.
Objective:
The guide you probably are talking about is meant for the "older builds" that you can also find in the original post, this recent version is a Remake that has some differences from the original, some girls may be captured in a different way, other can't be at all (for now).
This is somewhat my bad if you're reading the guide I made, but this also means you completely skipped whole chunks of the guide, which is a tiny bit annoying. The guide mentions the color coding in the very beginning, and the method itself is explicitly stated to not work yet. Like Mush, I know what probably *needs* to be done, it just can't be done yet.
Ah, well, it will be a while until it's "finished" so to speak.
You're supposed to go to her house to grab the item, she doesn't give it to you automatically. And yeah, the rematch is still bugged. Zell's probably working on fixing that for the upcoming demo.
