It didn't work at first, but I replied that it has worked for me (probably not others) afterwards (whether delayed update or you changed something).
But well, there seems to be a difference. The first link is decrypting the file automatically now while the other is simply the file (how the links are normally shared).

In terms on contents, the Beta. Both have their purpose. Alpha gave the majority of the contents that will be added together with Beta eventually (combining both in the current state will make it unstable)

After trying to decode all that japanese on the download website, seems as if there are a couple new characters in both since I last played. Not as many as I thought there would be. There are characters with scenes that you cannot capture correct?

He's working on adding new characters to the Beta. And it's true that there are certain monsters that you cannot capture (such are in the Alpha)

The octopus girl isn't capturable. The guide (not the walkthrough) in the OP is up to date.

You need to find them yourself. The guide shows where (mostly in hidden passages, so keep a sharp eye while adventuring)

Thanks! I just found my first, the bunny girl portrait!

This game is amazing btw. So far nothing has compared to the amount of hours I've sunken into this; so much content too!
This is probably the best indie game I've played so far.

The sprites remind me a lot of Terraria and I love that game, so this one is an automatic win in my book

They are named emblems, if you are looking at the guide.
