I'll have to agree with the haters here. I don't completely hate the new art but I don't like it very much Nvm, I can't stand by either of those comments, I absolutely hate it. Fae was about one of the cutest things I'd ever seen. Now she looks like she belongs on a cartoon being marketed to young girls. She's so skinny she actually looks kinda lumpy now, her proportions look totally off and I feel like the new art doesn't capture her personality. I'm not supporting the game so I'll try not to be too critical beyond this but just my opinion, I really don't like it.

Unfortunately must agree with the hater posts as well. I think the old art for Faye looked a lot cuter. The new art is way too exaggerated. I hate saying this because, like, you've mentioned how long you worked on it, but I kinda feel like you're trying to fix something that wasn't broken and I'd rather see more story stuff in the game. The previous art was good. I liked it. The new art is... rough. Just my two cents. Ultimately it's your game and you decide the direction to take it, but it seems like this is a direction not a lot of people want to follow you.

Idk what to tell you guys. I'm saddened so much people are not fond of the new art. I've been trying to find my own style for months. Also been working and shaping on the new art for months. And I've been posting previews and progress form day 1 on my Discord, on Twitter, and made a few videos and uploaded them to youtube. I also shared a bit of art here and linked one of the videos to the post. This is THE FIRST TIME i read any disaproval of the new style. I'm not saying you guys are wrong. I'm saying that I wish I had gotten some of this input before in order to compromise a little. I forgot people don't like changes too much and I didn't consider there'd be people that prefered my old style. At this point I can't go back and redo all the portraits again. It was an exhausting process and these new portraits have been made with the intention of having in mind the clothing feature. But I PROMISE that from here on out, and on the second game (once this one is finished) I'll try to have a more in-between style. But I can't do much if people wait untill all the new art is done and implemented to give me input. I'm really sorry because your happines when playing my game is the most important thing to me.

I would say most (like me for example) were just waiting for more game content before playing further and didn't realize that you'd rather change the images than produce content. Sorry about that. ^^

Well for me, I love all kind of art, and believe there is a certain "style" to everything. What most important for me, is that the artstyle fits the story, or the story fits the artstyle.

Basically an example would be: A warrior woman wearing WARRIOR armour, maybe a scar or two.

So like I said, no worries about the style, it good that you take feedback, but don't let the feedback completely control your game. Can't make everyone happy, but take sonic movie as an example, they completely remade sonic just because of feedback. And people absolutely loved it and many would say that it was absolutely made the movie become suchs a hit. Many watched the movie, to show their love to the creators and etc.

Anyway what do I know, I am a guy flipping everyone off with my profile picture. Pretty sure that ain't giving the sign of "love"

Well, I never saw the new art anywhere until the game update was posted or I would have given feedback. The game had cute characters and good art style, but the new style is unattractive and not sexy (Fey looks underaged (like 12 years old now) and needs to be in a hospital due to how unhealthy she looks). You will never please everyone.

Good luck dev, but I will most likely not be continuing since any sexual stuff with Fey feels wrong now. The game needed more story/character content and not art redo (sorry if harsh, but I really enjoyed this game before the art change, so sad to see it changed).

Bruh you have regressed from passable art to something that looks like a teen weeb deviantart profile trying to imitate anime with the extreme limb proportions and anorexia. It looks too stylized to be sexy at all. It's weird looking and the opposite of sexy. TBH you'd be better off scrapping it and continuing on content with the last build. If anything, scrap the clothing feature to save yourself work. People are here for the characters established already, and don't rely on people following you to discord for legitimate criticism. The kind of people who no-life hard enough to go simp for artists on their personal backpatting channel instead of having better things to do will not give you actual assessment.

Ouch. well, I am really sorry and don't wish to dishearten you.

Personally, I came across on discord that you were making some art.
I wanted to avoid spoilers so I mostly avoided looking at it
also I didn't realize you intended to replace the existing art with new art.

I think also that at least part of the issue is first impressions.
The first and main picture you see for the new art is the "idle" pose for fay, the elf. Which looks really messed up.

That picture was potentially the best picture in the old art style.
While I think it is the worst one from all the pics in the new style.
new (1).png

This pic. what is up with this pose? Well, actually I figured out how it is possible... if her butt is touching a wall of the room and the floor is particularly rough it is possible to hold this pose. (I can't, I slip down. and it hurts my back and legs)
And her legs and waist look messed up too.

meanwhile this picture looks a lot better
new (2).png

Like 2 whole grades better.

Also Fay's waist was borderline too slender originally and only got a pass on "well she is an elf not a human". But it seems like it shrunk significantly on this update. To the point where it went from "elves are weird" to "this is badly drawn waist". especially in the main pic.
if you compare the two pics I quoted above. the 1st pic has a waist that is 1cm thick and the 2nd one has a waist that is almost twice as thick. While the head size is the same in both. just take a ruler and measure the two to compare.

====
As far as exposure goes.

Most people only check this thread when F95 tells them there is a game update posted, or when someone's @ 's them or replies to them specifically. So they haven't seen anything you posted in the thread. Also if it is a link instead of being embedded it is easy to miss.

As for discord, my F95 dedicated discord instance (using a different browser and different username) is already in over 40 servers. And that amount is only growing
I usually only check a specific game's discord when there is an announcement that shows up in my discord. (although be careful not to spam too many @ Everyone)

I never go to twitter. They are far too political and ban happy.

I avoid any adult content on youtube and other google owned platforms.
I don't want google to have my porn history. google saves everything forever and does not lose it (thanks to the google file system).
You can still pull up my IRL timeline from 10 years ago and show to the minute exactly which stores I went shopping on tuesday august 1st in 10 years ago. Google is evil and you should be afraid of it.
Also youtube movies of an artist drawing tend to be very long, I was never into watching a video of someone drawing. I rather only see the resulting picture

Like I said, in the future I'll try to step a bit back and have a more in-between style. I literally started doing art when I started working on this and didn't have the luxuty of proper art education, so this is a bit of self-exploring. I'm sorry people will have to put up with some of my whims sometimes, this was one. A lot of people liked the new style too, and it shows on a heavier support on Patreon. I'm saying I care less about non-patreon players? No, I'm just using the example to demonstrate that there's people happy with the changes that are not voicing themselves. I aimied for a more cartoonish style fully on purpose, but I'm just in the process of discovering myself as an artist. Next time I'll try to go for a less cartoonish style as I work on my progress. And, yeah, I can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. People that stay with me and put up with some unpleasant moments due to personal tastes as I evolve will be rewarded in other ways. I'll never stop making content and I'm sure you are aware that is often a problem. So many devs/artists that dissapear or pay no mind to what their players are saying. But yeah, part of the price of staying for this journey will be being subject to some of my whims. And if that's not something everyone is willing to do, I fully understand. All I ask is respect towards each others as fans/players. Criticize me and my art as much as you need to, I'll hear it and consider it all and act acordingly as much as my energies and motivation allow me to.

At the moment I'm too tired to keep replying each individual argument. I need to focus on a fan animation I had to make progress on today and... Yeah, like I said, I'll try to do better in the future.

I imagine most of the people here aren't on your discord. As for the artwork you've been posting here, I think it looks significantly less bad without the pixel art filter over it. I still didn't like the artwork teases you'd been posting but without the pixel filter they didn't look nearly as bad imo. With it the too skinny bits start to look too lumpy and she looks like a stretched out balloon that hasn't been blown up.
Her legs look non functional. Like she literally looks like she's just floating there like Tinkerbell.
Her waist and chest are just flat out too small. Makes her look even more like Tinkerbell, I'd literally be scared to have sex with someone with her new proportions, she looks like she'd break. She's still cute but she looks too brittle to be sexy now imo.

Sorry Txxus for the hard reaction. I was watching the new art getting made, but I wasn't sure how indicative it was going to be of the final product, and I wasn't really sure how to give constructive feedback. I don't see a lot of activity on the discord, so I wasn't sure where my comments may be best received.

Unlike others I'm not going to drink a great big bottle of haterade here, though I will say I preferred Fey's old style. As mentioned by others, I think her new style looks a little too skinny and disproportioned. I think the new art definitely makes Fey look more stylistically similar to Petra, so in that sense it is definitely an improvement. The biggest thing to remember is that there are no correct answers when making art, and you have decide what will make you most satisfied. Is it art that you like, or art that everyone else approves of?

I chose to support this project because I knew it was a new project with interesting ideas, but especially knowing you're a new dev, and need some support. I'm sorry my support in the form of feedback fell short. I'm going to continue my support because I still want to see where this goes, and rocky development is part and parcel to games this early in development. Take a couple days to step back and collect yourself before looking at the project again so you can process the feedback and not let it poison your decision making or how you feel about the project. I know you're working hard, and doing this game in your free time.

It's fine. I really do wanna explore my own style and it's a thing that takes time, since I have less than 2 years of anatomy experience, all explored within this game. I'll try to improve towards the future tho.

I would almost buy this, but I wish there was more time passed so the development was further.

I must be patient. I feel like I enjoy this developers mindset except the protag always becoming angry too much emphasis.
