Duh, after korra 2 book the old avatar lineage is cutted by Unavaatu so as next avatar after korra we should meet only Korra in spirit. Now it's just my theory but I like to think that all this time travel is to regain the connection with the others avatar with the help of the Painted Lady and Nagina

Sounds better than the story of the SL. (And I'd like to see that implemented!)

If you're at the southpole just proceed to the stories and it will eventually lead you to her asking you to drink the some kind of beverage then there you go..
