No.That is actually one of the few forgiving things about this series. Legitimate character development and how Toph grew up from her rebellious phase. Even if people want to believe it was justified, at the end of the day her parents wanted to protect her because they truly love her. She was also just a kid during the events of ATLA and despite her rebelliousness, she still learned right from wrong and still aimed to do the right thing. So that development in TLoK was one of the better ones, because it showed how she grew even further past the events of ATLA. She took on a very serious responsibility and that was for the protection of others.
Toph certainly did not become serious. A small bit that shows this is her infantile pride of knocking (sick) Korra, and a big bit is her weird attitude towards the Kuvira conflict, helping or not according to emotional impulse.
TLoK is a bad show.
