Also so far I've only played the first beta (now downloading it for up to 3.5) but from what I've played I've seen no indication yet that they would appear in the main story.

She's Himiko, the sensei Julia goes to to become better at this game's equivalent of Dance Dance Revolution (ridiculous premise, I know). I haven't played beta 2 and 3 yet, so I don't know if she will get a bigger role later on.
