Played the game on Itch.io. I only played one run and didn't win. I just wanted to see what the game was all about.
Game was pretty jarring for a first time player that doesn't normally play card battlers. Got thrown straight into the thick of it with no explanations. It took me a minute to figure everything out, but that initial feeling of "what even is all this?" might turn off a less patient player. Your UI needs some reorganizing or labeling on the meters. Being able to see the numerical values without having to hover over the meters would be nice as a quality of life thing. Especially in those situations where a player is analyzing the cards in play and they have to weigh their options and count their resources. I believe someone else said something similar to this in the thread, but it bears repeating imo.
My biggest criticism of this game is that it doesn't feel like I'm "battling" so much as I am "managing." The enemies start with 3 cards and they just cycle through through them like a list. That is until they get aroused enough, then they get 3 extra cards or new cards. My point is there's not much "strategy" involved. It's more like "shit, they're going to do that one move after this one. I hope I draw the right card to deal with that one." The enemy doesn't strategize or prioritize moves, they just go through the motions. They aren't going to heal because they need to, it's just the next card that was on their checklist of cards to use during that turn. If the enemies had some kind of logic behind the cards they play, that'd feel a little more like a card battle for me.
All in all, I think the game's pretty good. Has room for improvement, but good nonetheless. I might play it again because I like rogue-like games and I know I haven't seen everything this game has to offer. Just wanted to share my first impression of the game in the hopes you can glean something helpful or insightful from it.
