Yesss, this was kinda the big bit of connective tissue I wanted to add between Chapters 1 and 2. For Friends in Need it's liiiike 350+ images, which I did over the course of a month. Basically shows how Guy became the person he is, by the time he winds up in the bar where he meets Ashe. Also gives you a little extra context for his relationship with his actress friend Marina, and the Chens.
Is this the first ingame appearance of Marina? If i remember right she is only mentioned by Guy before.
Yup! Since I was exploring that time/place, I thought it'd be fun to bring her in. One thing I wanted to do with this interstitial stuff was show that Guy's life didn't stand still when Nicki left. He kept doing stuff, making friends, etc. Likewise, this stuff expands Ashe's relationship with Guy a bit, showing that she's actually been spending time with him since their first night together.Is this the first ingame appearance of Marina? Nice! I was always a little bummed that after spending the night with Ashe, it felt like Guy just forgot about her, until their meeting while she was rollerblading. It's nice to see that addressed.
Gabby and Mason(seperately)only for me. I say it everytime. Being forced to deal with a druggie and others is just not my thing. I get there needs to be some sort of story/drama, so I deal with it. Well, I haven't dealt with the druggie shit yet and I do need to catch up soon.
I forgot to post my comment, so here it is, I like them all too, but have to say Risa has become my close second favourite after Ashe, that sex scene was great, I also really liked her backstory.
Yeah, I think it's usually the writing for me that ticks me off in VNs. I know they're just sex games, but sometimes the lack of character or story depth, or any kind of logic at all makes it feel like it's written by an AI or something, it's just so basic and low-effort fap fantasy junk that always feels really off. It's even more tragic when the renders are really great.
This, 1000000000000% this. Also, for me, what a lot of popular games here lack is well-written sex scenes. There's nothing I hate more than seeing reviews praise a game's sex scenes, only to play it and find they consist of few lines of dialogue and a few short animations. I get that some people enjoy the animations, but they just don't do it for me. I need quality (or at least decent) erotic writing and a good build up.As far as VNs go, though, I think way too many authors have focused on the 'visual' part of VN as opposed to the 'novel' part, which is a shame. There's already an endless number of shallow, sexy images and videos out there of REAL women... I don't think simply translating that into polygons is really offering much

Yeah, my experience is that most VN devs are either coders who learned how to create renders, or artists who learned how to code. I’ve talked to very few who were writers first or who even take the writing part very seriously (‘anyone can write’) but, at the same time, many of them are super sensitive about people pointing out flaws in their storytelling. So far I’ve tried (spent at least some time with) about 400 VNs, but if I were to make a tier list, only about a dozen would make the S tier - maybe 25-30 A tier and the writing / storytelling is what makes the difference. I don’t think I’ve ever bailed on a game because of the art, or the coding (unless it had so many errors that it was unplayable).Yeah, I think it's usually the writing for me that ticks me off in VNs. This game ~100% nails the writing, though, and it's probably one of the few games on here where I haven't rolled my eyes every other line. I'd say most of its issues were in chp 1 and look to have been resolved, so other than that it's only really minor things that could be improved, like render hiccups (the Chen girl's glasses sit awkwardly on her face on the post up there ^- for example, there's a Mason render during one of his scenes that looks like he broke his spine, and so on).

You're resilient and commend you for that; I couldn't spend much time with a poorly executed VN. I might as well watch porn at that point. So far and between finding a VN that has decent writing, good visuals and a unique plot. If I had a nickel for every time I saw a poorly executed AI generated NTR game or a hero comes home to his landlady and tenants to perv on them... I mean, those games always get abandoned anyways. I understand. It's the story with some porn, vs. porn with a story problem. Finding the former is hard, especially since there are a lot of players pushing Devs to add whatever kinks they have to every game plus people pushing for whatever Li they're into to get more screen time, even if there's no story/plot reason to do it. I've seen a few games go completely off the rails because the Dev caves to too many requests. You have to play a lot of games to find a handful of really good - well written ones, and even then you have to hope that they remain good as new updates come out and the devs fight burnout.
