Dev Update! 3/4/24
Hey hey, friends. How's everyone this week?
"Huh? You've got something to show me?"
Development continues to roll along! Today I did some more renders for one part of the Chapter 9 opening, before moving into some fun stuff with Pepper and Trevor. Seems our big-and-tall friend decided to change his hair up. Well, he has that in common with Pepper!
As of this evening I'm at 453 renders for the next chapter. But, I've still got a lot to do, so I'm not slowing down!
Putting aside the usual business of writing and rendering, I've been making some moves to treat this whole enterprise of mine more like a proper business. I'm two years in now, and your kind support for me, and my projects, has only grown. I already treat this like a second job in terms of time and effort, but some of the more nitty-gritty stuff I've been rather lax on. So, to that end, I'm working on the following:
- New Smut Machine: My PC's served me faithfully since I bought it two years ago, but the sad fact is that PornTron3000 has increasingly faltered in my pursuit of new, more complicated scenes. That means being creative and working around problems, which I don't mind.. But, all that stuff takes time. So, several months ago I bought a new GPU, with more VRAM. But, I still need to purchase and install a new PSU and RAM to support it. After that, I should have a pretty beastly little machine, which can take darn near whatever I care to throw at it. I've just been holding off on tinkering with the machine, until I went on hiatus. Heaven forbid I screw something up and brick my PC, in the middle of development. u_u
- Boosty: I had a very persistent fan from Russia repeatedly write me and ask me to set up a site where they could support me. So, I've parked my page but haven't yet populated it with much content. But, that'll be forthcoming.
- Cardd/Linktree/Etc: I'm looking into options now, but I need a unified site where people can find me. Currently, that can be a bit of a crap-shoot. My SubStar basically just doesn't show up in Google, at all. Which leads to a lot of people only finding my Patreon, and therefore only finding Friends Indeed, not Friends in Need. So, this would help rectify that, and hopefully help people find the content they want. But, this will also be extra necessary as I expand to new outlets. So, I'm looking into basic, free stuff like Cardd, Linktree, etc. But, some of these places can be a little iffy on how much they permit smut, so.. Gotta read up on the TOS. Eventually I could even see moving to a bit more of a proper website, but.. I don't think there's much need for it right now.
- Itchio: I'm a big booster of Itchio, and I love the idea of a place where you can purchase a game, DRM-free, without any other bells and whistles. Very much in line with my idea of an open internet. In accordance with Itchio's revised policies last year, it'll work by the simple principle that you buy the game once, and get the updates forever. With the caveat being that they release on the same day as the public updates. Still, that may help drive some traffic here, for the eager beavers who'd still like to get the update early.
- Steam: This is kind of the big one. Getting the game onto Steam will be opening it up to an enormous market, and significant exposure. Like Itchio, it'll also be of the buy once, own it forever model. But, this is more like a before-the-end-of-the-year goal, just due to the amount of due diligence required. Consider Itchio like the soft launch for Steam. But, I've begun the process of submitting my information, in advance of setting up a store page.
- Substack/TinyLetter: Alright, this one may be a non-starter, but I'm just curious if people would be into it. It'd basically function the same as SubStar, with free weekly Dev Updates. Maybe not ideal for everyone, but it'd be an option for people who don't really want to subscribe, and don't have any use for Patreon or SubStar, but still want to follow development.
Now, notably.. Some of these platforms may, by necessity, feature a more sanitized version of the game. Itchio clamped down on some content last year, and I need to read up on their current policies. Boosty's policies are basically identical to Patreon. Steam's content policies are fairly liberal, but it may behoove me to keep some of the Dark Path walled off. To that end, I've been thinking about a Friends in Need that still has all the corruption/soft-evil stuff, but not some of the more extreme content. I'll look into the feasibility of that, following the Chapter One remake.
So, besides all that.. Is there anywhere you'd like to see your buddy Neon? I'm here for you folks, so I'm open to ideas. I thought about making something like a free OnlyFans, or Instagram, which would basically feature one girl, posting in-character. Most likely Brittani, because.. Come on. It's Brittani. The webcomic Achewood used to do social media profiles for its many characters, and I always thought that was super fun. And of course there's

.
But, with Instagram pretty inextricably linked to your real identity, I'm not sure how many people would be into following an account linked to a smutty game. Might pull in some new fans, though. OnlyFans would give me the freedom to post fun, risque content on a random basis. Again though, not really sure how much desire/interest there'd be in such a thing.
Still, it would be fun to tell people, "Yeah, I have an OnlyFans. ;D"
So, that's all the stuff on my mind recently! My head is heavy with the three B's: boobs, butts, and business. But, for now I'll return my attention to getting Chapter 9 out, and then taking a much-needed hiatus.
Until next time, take care of yourselves, and thank you for your support!
