Tangentially relevant: I get into this recurrent argument with someone about representation. How much it matters, how never seeing someone who reflects you in fiction can eat at your own perceptions of validity. And how it can change perceptions of you by others who never see someone who realistically demonstrates your existence. (because people by and large are morons and need to be spoon fed fiction to even begin to approach reality.) They strongly disagree about how important it is. And it just goes in circles. But a continuing theme in the endless conversation is when you finally see 'yourself' in fiction you feel recognized in a way the people 'on top' have always had their entire lives.I'd actually forgotten about that one, good call.
Ironically this person and I are both minorities.
But Toro 7's Aisha and Friends in Need's Mason are both great examples of minority characters that aren't just there for the fetishization of their existence. Not that porn doesn't absolutely encourage exploitation of literally any facet of a persons being for fetishization, just that it's nice when that's not all the character is. Just like it's nice when porn isn't just extreme closeups of genitalia mushing together in goo.
