Well, the lesson here is that you don't undertake stuff like wholesale remakes of the first chapters until you're done with the whole game.

Nah, I'd say the game is going along very nicely. It's his first game, so he's learning as he goes, but the game's code really needed to be upgraded either way, and sooner's better than later. And the first chapter as well really stood out as lower quality compared to the rest. You can look at it as a quality step towards the Steam market. I don't think there's any need to change anything just because some pirates get antsy and whinge. Majority of his paying customers seem to support it, so that's really the beginning and the end of that complaint.

- adds 50~ renders to add scenes not present in the Legacy version.

- fixes visual errors in a few scenes.

- features some reworked pathing, allowing players who chose certain paths to get options like visiting Risa or watching TV, which weren’t originally available to them.

- as a consequence of the previous bullet point, adds a new (small) variant to open the following chapter.

- fixes some continuity errors with Gabby and Ashe.

- adds an “extras” menu with Blue Valentine and Slave to Desire accessible from the main menu.

So, not a ton of changes. More like a quality-of-life fix. I’ve had some bugs reported this morning that I need to check on, and I’ll be pushing out an update later today.

I am genuinely upset by how long this has all taken. I underestimated how tough it'd be to have my focus divided between fixing the old stuff, and making the new stuff.

I mean it's not like anyone could have predicted that reworking some things would lead to having to rework other things, or that reworking all these things would take more time than anticipated.

Yeah, I decided to make the Brent thing into Chapter 10, which occurs between the moments when Lucien is introduced, and when we actually talk to him. It felt like it'd be a good place to take a breather, being something a little lighthearted and fun, before the heavier moments with Lucien and Risa. I may decide to move it elsewhere, eventually. But for now I kind of like it there.

So, basically there were previously some paths that ended with you only having two options: go to sleep, or go to Nicki's. I've amended those to now add the webcam, TV, and Risa content as possibilities for those other paths. That allows you to have the date with Ashe, go see Risa, and then still watch TV/webcam or go to Nicki's, on every path. I fiddled around with the whole idea of having 'energy' to do X number of events, but I ultimately couldn't find the right balance. The idea's remaining on my wishlist of things to circle back to, for the Steam/final release, though.

Just because I'm upset by things not working out, doesn't mean I regret it. It sucks, but I'll ultimately be much happier with this build, once it's all complete. I've been able to address a lot of little continuity errors and visual problems that had long bugged me. But I'm ready to get a new chapter out, and give people some new stuff to explore.

I just replayed this game after about a year so it felt like a brand new game again now with the remastered version. I have a question about the relationships. Is there a definite answer on whether we must have multiple save files for solo paths, or if we can kind of date multiple girls for the time being and then decide later who to officially be in relationship with (so just one save file for now and split up into multiple saves later on)?

Someone else already answered re: the relationships, but I just wanted to say I'm glad the remaster gave you that feeling. It's been kinda tough to have so many people basically go, "lol remilk lololol make something new," when like.. There's been a ton of new (and recontextualized) material this year. But, because it hasn't advanced the story from the end of S1, people kinda act like I've been sitting here, thumb planted firmly up my ass.

It sucks not being able to do multiple events that night and that it was tough to figure out. It was one of the things I was most hyped for when I replay the game, so a little sad about that, but thanks for trying. I hope the steam/final goes more smoothly for that for you, cause I really want to see that. Not sure when that version is planned, but hopefully it happens nonetheless.

As for Brent, not my favorite place, for reasons already listed in previous post about flow, but I guess its fine, I can just skip it(as long as its still there, hopefully), so not biggest deal, even it breaks flow and wished it was in extras with other short stories.

Tbh, I think most milking accusations I see are practically as accurate as random chance, maybe even worse. I think some people are just more paranoid and suspicious than others, and entitled to boot, and just don't have any experience in development to hone their judgment. Maybe some milking bandwagons even push a dev into kinda doing just that... not being paid much for your work just to come back to a forum who's twisting you into the devil, I bet that feels really shitty if your passion was making VNs. Eh, who knows though, maybe not.

But, if someone takes a little bit of time to prove to themselves one way or the other, and if they play the game before and after the remake, whether they approve the changes or not in the end, I think it's pretty apparent it's definitely, definitely not milking; just another normal case of a dev spending his resources towards another aspect of the game.
