Other people have mostly said what I was gonna say, but I have never, ever, ever, EVER heard anyone describe or attribute crime in Latin America to "Spain" lol They will say "spanish" as in "spanish-speaking" for brevity's sake, but they of course do not mean Spain or any other spanish-speaking nations which aren't in the Americas.

But yeah, other than that, I think you are dismissing the fact that the Spanish Empire had a large, long-term cultural impact on the areas which it held, including most of Central and South America. Obviously, a lot can happen in a century+, and there are surely many things that are very different, but there are also surely many things that stuck around, just as there are many cultural similarities between the UK and the USA even today.

Anyways, speaking of spanish... I forget: is Carolina supposed to be "Spain" spanish? Or "south of the border" spanish? Look forward to convincing her we're daddy material either way
She's a spicy latina, man. Do the math lol.

I don't think I have a favorite. I just know that the most memorable moments are when they sing. I used to always replay those clips.

She looks 100% latina.

She could be Spanish, but descendant of Latin Americans. I mean, she might have been born in Spain, but she looks 100% Latina. And I would say that she is Mexican or Puerto Rican. She doesn't look like a Uruguayan woman, for example.

I think that you do not give much merit to the cultural relationship that Spain has with Latin American countries, I guess for ignorance.

In fact, the culture of any Latin American country is largely shaped by Spanish heritage beyond the language, without underestimating the indigenous and african heritage that is also an important part of our culture.

For example, speaking of my México: the Charro culture, much of the gastronomy and the Catholic religion are directly things we have in common with Spain.

And so we can find examples in other Hispanic countries, so it is obvious that Spain belongs to the same cultural block as Latin America, and has more in common with it than with any european or african country (with some very specific exceptions, such as Equatorial Guinea or Western Sahara, because in these countries there was also a Spanish imperial presence).

But I agree that the "Spanish = criminal" joke makes no sense as Spain is one of the safest countries in the world, unlike Latin countries. But let's not ask too much from an american either, they usually don't know what's going on outside their country jajaja.

Saludos hermano.

Yes of course. I was years ago living in Mexico for a while and, to those who told me that my ancestors were genocidal and things like that, I told them that it was probably their ancestors and not mine. I said it to be annoying, since I really don't care what some guys did centuries ago. I have nothing to do with it.

We all come from everywhere. And our cultures are a crossbreeding of several different cultures. That's why xenophobia, nationalism, and other nonsense are alien to me. We are just people.

Our entire legal system for one, iirc.

Well yes, we definitely need a new update. Soon.

Given that they are in America, I'd guess that too, though it's not like there aren't darker skinned Spaniards. Before they colonised the New World, they were themselves colonised by the Moors for almost 800 years.

Every genetist would tell you that European populations genetically diverged during the mesolithic-bronze ages period (15000 - 3000 years ago). What happened after the bronze age is - genetically speaking - trifling.
Nonetheless, even though genetic studies are showing haplogroups percentage variations in different European regions, Europe is genetically homogeneous: from Lisbon to the Urals, from Iceland to Sicily, we Europeans all belong to the same ethnic group.

Anyway, I think it's time to put an end to this pointless chat about our subtly racist stereotypes on appereance and ethnicity.

Are you guys trying to teach me something?
I didn't learn in school.
I ain't learning here.

All I care about is the boobies.
Keep on caring about those boobies. It's not as if their lessons are leading to anything fruitful. Unless someone has a VERY specific fetish doing a breakdown of Carolina's (or any of the love interests) 23andMe is fairly pointless. It's not as if a sizzling plot line is if she is in reality the heir to the long lost fortune of Queen Isabella or her archeologist father had the map to El Dorado or something. Although somebody needs to pitch that story to GleenXStudio immediately.

I guess I was thinking of this kind of Spaniard woman

But yeah, I'm not really familiar with women from Spain. I guess a lot of them are white and ~caucasian looking. But, then again, a lot of women in latin america can be too (not as much I'm sure, but enough).

soooo the taboo patch doesn't work for the beta?
NG has changed the way taboo content is unlocked, or he was definitely going to. I think the softer versions have a different name now (Friends Indeed?). If you've already got the $15 Beta it's probably unlocked anyway.

I'm very much enjoying this detailed exercise in ethnography!

For the record, I never really settled on a distinct ethnic background for Carolina and Maya. My area of the country's home to a sizable community of first and second generation immigrants from Mexico, so in the write-what-you-know tradition, it'd likely be easiest to say she's from Mexico.

But for my purposes it's enough to know she's a second-generation immigrant from a Spanish-speaking area. Could be Cuban, Mexican, Colombian, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican.. She does have bright blue eyes, so maybe Argentina? But, her heritage isn't overly important, other than the fact her parents drilled into her the importance of making the most of her opportunities, turning her into the uptight lady she is today. But, she also became pregnant at a young age, dropped out of college to be a stay-at-home mom, had that relationship end in divorce, and then re-entered the workforce without a lot of formal education or skills.

So, she landed at the Rhodenbarr (the name of Guy's condo building) and worked her way up to her current position after a few years of toiling in less glamorous, low-paying jobs. Which is why she's a bit of an over-achiever. While a lot of people would look at her job as a pretty basic service industry job, it's a point of pride for her.

.. also, I invented Carolina after A) deciding I wanted Guy to have someone he could interact with at his building and B) I'd just finished watching porn featuring a Colombian girl with bright blue eyes. Don't let me fool you, at the end of the day, most of my decision-making is driven by horny impulse.

When is next update guys?
It's imminent. Working on the last handful of scenes now, and hoping to have an Alpha out on Friday. It will likely not have full art and such, but it'll have a complete script/variables, and 90% finished art. The Beta will follow shortly after for one last bug-check, and then the final version.

soooo the taboo patch doesn't work for the beta?
I sent you a PM. :)

Long story short for anyone interested in subbing: The Patreon versions have had the taboo stuff removed from the game files themselves. The scripts and image folders are edited.

So, folks have three options: Play vanilla-only Friends Indeed, subscribe on SubStar for the 'classic' version of Friends in Need, or link their Patreon to the Neon Ghosts Discord, where you'll have access to tier-restricted channels that'll offer you options.
