I’m stuck at the day job today, but had some time to experiment with something I’d been putting off for a bit: integrating the text-based short stories into the main game.

After some experimenting, I managed to land on something I think looks pretty good. It’s very minimalist, but I dig it. I may eventually experiment with different frames to better capture the mood of the story. But for now I just wanted something that wouldn’t strain people’s eyes too much.

So wait, you're giving us lore prompts ingame now? Do we have to look for there or are they offered to us at a certain pace?
I mean, secret stories as part of a game mechanic would kinda work if it's not essential. Or side-stories, I guess?

I smell fun things on the horizon...
No, that's not my upper lip. Don't be rude!

I believe his plan is to have the short stories and side-story games be available on the menu page. That is what has been discussed on Discord.

Well, I've done a few short stories that I posted on my blogs. I enjoy doing them! They're pretty low-effort, but they can really build up a character, without forcing me to spend a ton of time rendering stuff. I think people's affinity for Isabella is like 80% her short story. The issue has always been having that very important material existing outside the game. It kinda feels like reading a Batman comic, where a character's origin is only told in a radio play, or something. Not everyone is inclined to seek that material out and I hate the idea of that stuff being lost one day, and the game feeling incomplete for its absence.

That's put me off doing them as much as I'd like to. Plus, they had certain weird quirks, like needing to be set before the events of the game, never mentioning Guy by name, etc. because they needed to work with every player's journey. It'd kinda suck to write an Ashe story taking place solely in her corruption route, when someone is entirely a love path player. Y'know?

Moving them into the game solves all those problems. Now they'll be part of the game and I can have variable-dependent things occur in the story. It's a big incentive to actually make more short stories.

Hey buddy, as someone who enjoyed all of the mini-stories, including the ones you built games for, I'm all for this. You could throw a few renders in here and there and call it a day, and it wouldn't have to sit and exist outside of the game. Totally agree.

I'm happy you came to this realization and hope it gives you room to experiment and play around like MARVEL and DC do. This is your universe and we're here for the ride. I was initially for making the stories into separate pretty downloadable PDF's, so they could be read as separate books. But if you can squeeze them into the game, well... that's an even better idea, aside it taking time for you to develop. If that's not an issue, here's a coffee :coffee: and let's gooo!

As much as I enjoy the main story, I really think the short stories enrich the experience. They don't have to be canon or even referenced in the main story.

Thank you. I am an asshole for not joining the discord and looking this up properly. When I get home after the weekend, I will.

Here's the link to all of them.

WW Glitter and Grit is the one he's talking about.

Mega

Why on earth would you post a new set of links to something which is available in the free public version of Neon's Subscribestar?

Send the traffic the guy's way.

Because that was the link I had - and it's not a new set of links. It's Neon's links.

I had a sexy idea. We have Britt put a blindfold on and instead of Guy eating her out he gets Isabella to while Britt thinks it's Guy.
You poetry and imagination will never cease to amaze me, friend Joshy. I would obviously make it way darker (how, I don't know yet) but I like the theme!
Short sides stories and novellas would be an awesome media to explore this kind of scenario and I'm all for it, once again.

Honestly, it's my biggest fantasy with the game and has been for a while now. I think Isabella has been called a snake, so imagine something like this.

Isabella's tongue snaked and writhed as it moves towards its destination. The petals were open for her exploration.

I know I'm not a writer but damn I'm a bit horny now lol.

I hope the developer finishes the marathon of restyling the old game and starts giving us some plot movement. Thank you very much, but we need movement.
When a dev goes and tries to redo their entire game to make it safe for HR, it never ends well. 99.9% chance this game is abandoned, and 100% chance it's FAR worse than it would have been otherwise.
