We don't know the secret behind scarlet's creation style or why he says this gives him less burden as a creator. Maybe he takes a breather between updates or maybe it's a mental thing where not updating the game for a long time gives him pressure. All I know is the bulky versions have led to countless delays in the past. But you may also be right and this might only be the a test.
And yeah this version was for testing the waters, I think I saw that in the sneak peeks.

I think this might be the actual reason.
In either case of scarlet having already everything planned out or playing it by the ear (story-wise) changing periodically the focus between netori / depravity path can sometimes help with writer's / animator's block. Or simply just to keep the project itself more engage as not to grind oneself too much into one kind of writing/path.

Honestly, from what i learned, its best to wait two to three updates to get Big changes since things go something like

update 1 more content to one of the two current routes ->update 2 implement small changes -> update 3 fix bugs from previous updates

rinse and repeat depending on how things go

It's a VN it takes like 1 minute to get back to your save. Just skip dialogue and pick the choices for the route you want.
