That's the majority of indie games. Just because you suck at coding doesn't mean you can blanket apply your standards to everyone especially when there's more than enough real world examples showing otherwise. You have games like terraria(less than a year), undertale(less than 3 years), the binding of isaac(months), banished(less than 3 years by a single guy),stardew valley and bright memory being developed by 3 or less people. I mean bright memory was developed over a couple of years by a single dev in his part time and that one actually does look like and play like a triple A game. The small dev team taking nearly a decade to make a 2d platformer doesn't fly when they've already missed practically every single deadline they themselves announced.

The game quality may vary and some devs definitely don't understand decent game design but at least they deliver.

i think its really interesting popping into this thread and reflecting on how much my life has changed over all these years, how many games have been announced & seen complete releases in similar genres within f95zone, and how this game still hasn't fucking come out
Yandere simulator vibes. I remember watching Pewdiepie play that game when I was a teenager and since then I've gone to university, did a post grad, went through two jobs cause of covid and the game still wasn't finished.
At least that game had releases I could actually play, even if it has always ran like dogshit because the developer has never heard of an LOD among other problems.
Forgive me, I didn't do a post grad so my reading comprehension might be faulty. Are you implying that Future Fragments has had no releases yet?

I haven't watched this game for a while so a lot of it is new to me, but if this got the abandonned tag, then it's been at least 1.5 years since their update on this website. That being said, I am told by the developer that the team working on FF is doing regular status updates and is set to release sometimes this year. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they do release it before 2024. After that though, this game is as good as dead and stuck in development limbo like many other indie h-games.
Well yeah if you can believe them, but I believed them for the steam release and I was hyped has hell for that and then it never appeared. And looking at their discord they said a new demo would be released soon and then that was delayed. Hell I even scrolled back through their steam news, there is a post there saying in november 2022 that the game was 95% done.
Like what are they using runescape level scaling for their percentage completion bar? As I said, this whole thing just reminds me of Yandere simulator. I don't play that game any more btw, I think feature creep got the better of the game, plus the whole "it's hitman but if you don't follow these exact steps then you'll be instantly caught" put me off it, but I do enjoy looking into the stupid drama the dev and community generates.

The way I see it, by early 2024 we'll know either way. Dev told me they're still on track to release this year so im just waiting to see.
As a player, the attitude I generally take with games that are being developped is that I just let them cook until they update. I played the first demo of this game way back when and I've been checking it on and off. Honestly, I am impressed by the progress it has made overall. Sure, it took a while, but it's certainly beyond my skills to do what these devs achieve, so I'm rooting for them and hoping for the best.
Now, things may turn for the worse, but I don't think that's what anyone here is hoping for. Frankly, as someone who has made games in the past, sometimes it really helps to receive encouragements from random people. And on the flip side, being told you're doing bad over and over is really harsh on the mental.
As long as things don't go too far and you're not insulting anyone, I think it's fine to share an opinion, even a pessimistic one. However, I think it would be important to think about the outcome you guys want to see come to fruition. Being pessimistic seldom helps things improve.
You have a point. But as I said, any criticism (constructive or not) would be deleted at the demands of the developer.
It drained peoples' desires to be constructive. I had a string of like six posts all offering suggestions on how to improve the transparency of development and updates all wiped, because... I'm still waiting on a reason for that, actually. He even took most of the advice, but still demanded that the mods ban me for suggesting it.
It's some of the worst PR work I've seen for a game since that one Mighty Number 9 community manager.

I have to say that I'm quite a newcomer when it comes to this game, so I haven't seen anything when it comes to the drama of the previous years, but it's incredibly entertaining. And hopefully it actually releases when it's supposed to because the demo is genuinely good.

From what I've seen everyone is kinda fed up with this. The mods are tired of the drama and don't want to have to intervene anymore. You seem to be annoyed because some of your posts have been removed and HentaiWriter has also complained about how things were unfolding in the thread as well.
I think everyone should just calm down, have a civil discussion and just chill until the game releases or at least until there's something that comes out to talk about where the game is concerned.
So far, all of the answers to me have been cordial, if a little downcast, so I think that if everyone makes an effort, this situation can be turned around and have a positive outcome yet.
I can't tell if the "guy who wants to take down F95" is meant to be me or not, I've only ever ended up having problems in this specific thread. The rest of the site is fine by me. No other dev has treated me that way, and I can think of at least one dev who implemented a change to their game based on my own suggestion.
But that latter part sounds actionable. If he tries to fuck with the site, be it DDoS or DMCA, nobody will be left to defend him and people will take that as open-season to pirate his (singular) released game, if it does come out.
It would mean he'd be claiming that the entire thread was only for PR, but he also put in the worst PR work ever.

First of all, I would like to say that I am not one of the people who accuses HW of any conspiracy theories. I just find his behavior incredibly strange. Why do you constantly make false promises and constantly try to convince people that he won't incinerate them? Then the pattern of excuses or justifications repeats, which confuses me. Then an image is published on Discord where you can see the folders with the levels and versions, some of which are older than the current demo. He says the team works incredibly hard every day and they barely get any sleep. Where I think to myself, why do you now want to project this image of yourself as working yourself to ruin? Take your time and don't stress yourself out. Now he says he has people testing the game, didn't he have them before? I mean, I think he did two progress reports every month. What kind of cut scenes are these that cause such big bugs to appear? As far as I'm concerned, development could take 20 years, I mean, it's not my game and I'm grateful for everything. The only thing I'm allergic to is false promises because it gives me the urge to find out the truth. I just ask myself whether there has been any active work on the game in the last few years. I left the Discord a month ago, so I don't know what he's written or shown in the meantime. But why doesn't he just show a video as proof where you can clearly see the problem. I think then he would mute all critics. Just getting upset about criticism here is stupid, I think it's somehow part of it and even if it's overwhelmingly negative, I mean he's being talked about and getting promo for his game at the same time. That's just part of it. Only if you don't communicate properly and say what's important, I don't think you should be surprised that people are getting upset here. I mean, in the end there are a lot of disappointed people who are a little upset because they were promised a game years ago. That should tell you that the game can only be good. And on the subject of money, I mean I already knew that it wouldn't be free when he said if it wasn't finished by then it wouldn't cost anything and now what he says that he already has a plan for f95 just shows me that something isn't going right.
