I'm interested in the premise, but after several minutes with the game, I'm puzzled with the font choice. The menu font evokes Greek feel rather than Roman with these triangular E's, and the text box font is more like Renaissance. IDK if anybody except me cares though...
Update: After about an hour of playing, I gave up. The writing is not quite there, but I would have soldiered through. Alas, the flavor is just off. Names are very strange. Nivea? Carina? Liana? My suspension of disbelief just fails to start doing its job. Some ChatGPT-based research on names would go a long way. Hell, I, as a player, started with asking ChatGPT with a list of names suggestions which are appropriate for the MC! Diabetus Obescus — well, that's hilarious, but it should be Obesus not Obescus, I never studied Latin and still know that. But the final straw was tea. Carina brewing tea for the MC, what, is it partying like it's 1600s? A quick, 2-minute research shows they would usually drink wine, but Carina, being poor, would probably only drink posca "a popular drink among ancient Roman soldiers and poor peasants. It was usually made by watering down low quality wine and then adding spices to make it taste better. " Was it customary to offer posca to a guest as we would offer tea? I don't know, maybe not. But not tea, please, it's anachronistic.
Come on, I'm not a Rome nerd, but some basic research is needed in every story, and in our day and age, basically every question can be answered with a quick ChatGPT check. That's more than enough.
I recently played a sci-fi game (also from f95) which was the opposite: it had such depth in its lore that I had to Google things and learn about them, like names of types of weapons, and I'm a bit of a sci-fi fan. And it was a fictional lore, no one would bat an eyebrow if a new category or two of weapons were invented by the author.
I'm ranting because I think this game has a lot of potential. The fight system seems interesting. The drawing style is actually pretty. The three paths are also something I want to play through and reach the point when they begin to affect gameplay. It's an early enough phase in the development to make these oversights right and make this a great game. So I really hope the dev will be able to use it as feedback. Good luck and cheers!
