Meh, some harem games allow you to have groups of characters, but still not ALL the characters. Sometimes for story reasons, sometimes due to character or "faction" conflicts, sometimes to add replay value, etc. I understand your issue with it; I just don't have a problem with that issue myself.
If I could stay friends with a certain character and help them avoid the bad ending, that would be great too. I could replay the game, friend-zone one character, and make another my love interest. But the problem is, even if you're friends with a character, the bad ending still happens. We're forced to watch the bad endings, and even if we replay the game to avoid that ending, we'll see a different bad ending. And people don't want to see their character, who they can't have a romantic relationship with because of another character, have sex with someone else (especially if that character is drugged or threatened), or something like that.
