Daz GPU Failure in Daz3D

I've been using my RTX 3090 for several months now with no problem. But suddenly my renders are failing as soon as they start up. I've tried updating the latest Nvidia card but it's had no effect. Anybody have an idea what I should try next?

what version of daz3d are you using?

try these steps
1. download ddu
2. download the latest nvida driver
3. disconnect from the internet
4. restart your computer into safe mode
5. run ddu and uninstall video driver
6. restart your computer out of safe mode
7. log into your window by using a pin if you are using one in offline mode
8. re-install video driver and restart for the last time
9. reconnect to the internet

Thanks guys. I did determine there was something about this particular scene that was causing it. Still not sure what it was after extensive experimentation, all I can assume was something about the file had become corrupted in some way. So I just had to scrap all my work on it and start over.

If the file becomes corrupted, Daz often just crashes in my experience. So, it's probably (and I use probably loosely here.) not that. I've never come across it with regular assets (though I had a power outage while setting up a render once and it corrupted the .duf). It's always been other plugin-based stuff. Namely Ghost Dynamics, for me. I'd say try deleting assets one by one to see if that helps, but seeing as you've started over, that's basically a moot point now.

Just out of curiosity, did you get it working after starting over? I mean, assuming you've already started rendering it.

I had these warnings myself, some object had a SubD level that is too high and that caused my render to fail as well.
Most likely a clothing item, in my case it was a shoe.
Check the Surfaces tab for strangely high SubD levels.

The weird thing is that I had spent hours last night doing different lighting tests with this scene and I didn't have any problems. I don't think I added anything new, I even found the exact lighting settings I wanted and it worked. But then I set it to do a long overnight test render and when I woke up I found that Windows had restarted automatically and crashed Daz. And that's when I found that the scene would no longer render.

I tried rendering the scene by hiding each element one-by-one, and there were times when I could get it to work without a particular element, but then the next time it wouldn't work. In hindsight I might have tried actually deleting rather than simply hiding. But anyway I finally gave up and just created a blank scene.

My recreation of the scene does appear to be working. It's not an exact duplicate and there are a few minor assets that have been swapped out, but not anything that seems like it would have made a difference. I dunno. It's one of those things I would probably have spent more time trying to figure out if I had more time, but if it's faster just to start over and move on then that's what I have to do.

I can't comment on the coding part (and won't) but barely seen a software *that* bloated over the years (remind me PoE lol). Outside dubious cheap 3rd party choice (dForce, Garibaldi, Filament....), at some point they will need to cut off the fat for the sake of that 10+ years asset retro-comptability and start fresh again. Maybe a 1/3 of (now hidden) features don't serve any purpose anymore (3DL/Poser era), it's madness.

All this is deeply linked. The more you add, the more the little something that was just an annoyance without consequences become a big issue.
You end having to constantly juggle between the constraints coming from the legacy code, and the constraints implied by what you'll add. And often, too often, you have to add an abstraction layer that serve only as conversion level between the two.
Ideally, you should refactor your code (well, just a part of it of course) each time you implement something new. But the more you wait, the less it's possible, because it isn't anymore "just a part". That's why, time to time, you've a software that radically change ; the newest addition made the whole refactoring mandatory.

Daz Studio would clearly benefit from this, having DForce purely native would make it faster, and it would be possible to turn it off if one wanted it. It would then be an extension of their autofit ; either you fit roughly (DForce Offf) or you fit finely (DForce on). But, with all due respect for what they are doing, that I wouldn't be able to do, I'm not sure they have the workforce for this.
