A traffic jam, when you're already late - not ironic, unless you're a town planner & you're late for a seminar of town planners & you were giving a talk on how you solved traffic congestion.
As Ed Byrne states, the only thing ironic about that song is the fact that it's not ironic & is written by someone who clearly doesn't understand what ironic means.

Don't get me wrong, same as you I quite enjoyed the music at the time, but the lyrics are just dense.
10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife - not ironic, unless you were trying to open a tin of paint with a knife then, the next day, you found out that a spoon would've performed the job perfectly well.

So I went through the lyrics and I think the song is really about irony, even if some of the similes are a little lame or missing the point.
Ed, on the other hand, pushes it to absurdities, which is the principle of most stand ups.

Yeah, that's what makes it such a funny skit, to me.
As you say, vast majority of stand up comedy is pointing out the absurdities of things, whilst being rather absurd about them.
A "No Smoking" sign, on your cigarette break. Not ironic in the slightest, just means that the person on the break chose the wrong place to light up. Ignorance is not irony.
A free ride, when you've already paid. Not ironic in the slightest, just stupidity.
