Well, I went to a school reunion & hadn't seen most of those people for over 35 years.
It wasn't hard to figure out who most of them were, they recognised me, too & I'm not related to them.
If one of them was my Sister, I guarantee I'd know\recognise something about her features, her mannerisms, the way she stands, walks, moves, her voice.
I might not instantly place her as my Sister, but she would most certainly carry an air of familiarity.

Like when you meet someone & feel like you've met them before, but tenfold.

The post specifically said that she wouldn't recognise him because she has "memory block".
Therefore, using basic deductive reasoning, if she didn't have "memory block", then she quite obviously would recognise him.
In that case, it stands to reason that he would also recognise her, as he doesn't have "memory block".

Because of a extremely difficult divorce, I was separated from my oldest daughter for 10 years. No communications, no photos, nothing. Yet, one day I was driving and saw her on the side of the road. I recognized her instantly, so did she.

I have spent longer than 10 years without seeing my sisters, yet, I recognize them without fail.

I know that that trope is quite common, but, it just doesn't translate into the real world. To me is the same as Clark Kent glasses.

The MC was separated from Melissa when she was 13. There's no way he wouldn't recognize her. Some victims of burn accidents that lose their facial features are still recognized by friends and family. We are social animals, we are hard-coded to recognition. Even my autistic wife that doesn't really see faces, recognizes people years and years after not seeing them.

So, please drop that rather empty argument. If Melissa was to come to Gilford, and meet anyone of the family, she would be recognized, even if she had memory loss, changed hair color, started using glasses, put on a lot of weight, etc.

I'm not sure why you're calling it empty, mate? You've just agreed with it, with more RL examples.

Sorry. Crossed lines.

I simply forgot I replied to you, and was talking to the person you replied. My brain is jam right now... low blood content in my circulatory coffee system.

Nah but you see, it's actually very simple (in AVN sci-fi logic): Melissa's body was so badly damaged during the accident that some mad scientist tried to save her by transplanting her brain into a clone of her body BUT the accelerated growth of the clone caused her facial features to evolve very differently AND she also has partial amnesia AND that amnesia disappears instantly and permanently on her first orgasm. Thanks to this very simple plot trick, the MC and her sister do not recognize each other until he gets her pregnant.

Noticed a lot of the scenarios people mentioned involving time gaps and recognizing people, mainly referenced adults who they had no expectations of being dead.

Not a 13 year old whose due for a major growth spurt and then the slower development after 18. Plus the psychological aspect of dismissing any minor-moderate similarity due to thinking they are DEAD is common after the mourning period when they move on.

That last growth spurt can and does change people into someone you might not easily recognize. Not including hair, glasses, tattoos, etc which can compound it.

You'd be less likely to recognize someone whose modestly different from what you remember when you think they are dead. You're mind goes 'cant be, they are dead', dismissing it.

So no, it does make sense MC wouldn't recognize her.

And the best way for that twist to come about is actually seeing her and not recognizing her at first, only to learn later on that it is her.

Shawna? After you bag the whole family and are getting ready to settle down, she comes back and viola, the happy ending gets even happier.

And if you had second thoughts about adding that extra twist, you just drop her and no ones the wiser.

I can guarantee you that Melissa returning or not have absolutely nothing to do with anyone recognizing anyone ;)

It's 100% based on what mood MB wakes up on on any given day (i'm still 100% sure she's gone).

On the note of missing familymembers.... shouldn´t MC have another Grandma from the other side of the family or am I missing something?
