When I did it did not go automatically back to the game as part 2-4 do, but rather stayed on the loading screen, which caught me by surprise. I had to manually hit back in the quick menu to start the game.LOAD. That is the option to use.

It's possible you didn't save the EXACT "Save Now" screen.
Not only does the big graphic "Save Now" have to be there, but the first line of the text at the bottom has to start with "Save Now!"
I don't want to throw shade on anyone in particular here, but having frequently visited this thread for over a year now, it absolutely baffles me how so many people fail to follow that extremely simple instruction. Surely it can't be that hard to just do what two single syllable words state, right?

That is not the case (neither in V5 nor the previous versions), I saved all my chapters on the "last chance" screen and they all worked.
As mentioned in a previous post, V5 worked as well, but contrary to all other chapters did not jump back into the game after loading, but rather remained on the loading tab (making the fact that the save was loaded successfully not very obvious) and required me to manually hit "back" on the quick menu, which is counterintuitive and quite distinct to the behavior of all other parts.

I don't think you were here already when the "great" change from Part 2 to Part 3 happened, we had hundreds of Posts asking the same damn question when the Answer was just one post above them, I don't even remember how many pages worth of the same question we had at that time...I don't want to throw shade on anyone in particular here, but having frequently visited this thread for over a year now, it absolutely baffles me how so many people fail to follow that extremely simple instruction. And that went on for 20 or more updates... like a recurrent nightmare for a whole year...I don't think you were here already when the "great" change from Part 2 to Part 3 happened, we had hundreds of Posts asking the same damn question when the Answer was just one post above them, I don't even remember how many pages worth of the same question we had at that time...
Sometimes I think I may have developed some form of PTSD from it... What I do know is that I no longer have any patience left... Zero.... Nada... Gone...

It clearly is extremely hard for some people to follow a simple 2 word instruction. As proven above, yet again.

I've been trying to understand the decision process... I would have said "thought" but clearly there's no frontal lobe involved, this was quite clearly a decision made in the Lizard part of the brain, the one that controls fight/flight/freeze reactions. Absolutely NO intelligence involved. Clearly.
When faced with a screen that says "Save Now".............. they don't.
It's simply incomprehensible. Oh... and the excuses when interrogated... They made up the most stupid scenarios imaginable to try to defend the indefensible... one thing was clear... IT WAS NEVER THEIR FAULT. NEVER. EVER.
Don't believe me? Go back and read... Most of it is still there.

Those are different parts. 0.68 was the end of part 4. you need to play part 5 first then move on to part 6

"Last chance" means last chance to rollback and save at the correct screen, not last chance to save. You're throwing caution to the wind saving somewhere other than the stated screen. It might work, or it might not, but complaining about it is only going to get you more of what you've gotten before out here.
