Chasing your landlord (hotfix a)

Here is a quick hotfix to solve some bugs in the game. The cheat password is the same as 0.20 version.

Features
  • Added the list of the Patreons (starting with cub tier, as stated) at the Main screen. Thank you for your support, guys
Bug Fixes
  • The portrait 42 now is accessible from the Character creation screen.
  • Now the email from the JCS job interview shows the correct time period (12:00 to 14:00).
  • Corrected some instances where the MC name wasn't displaying properly on the date with Dalton at the bar.
  • Linux users reported that the password for the cheat screen (landlord) wasn't working on some browsers like Chrome. Now it should work everywhere.
  • Renamed the .html file to the correct name, Index.html.

    If you get a WebApi Storage error just starting the game, you might have a problem with your saves caused by the old name of the file, index.html, which was on the initial .zip file of the 0.20 version. Here's how to fix it:
    • Rename the new .html file temporally to index.html (yeah, with lowercase "i")
    • You should be able to access the game now. Load your latest save, and then save it to disk. Repeat that process with every save slot you want to keep. Now once you have all the saves you want to keep, delete them from the save screen. EVERY ONE OF THEM (or use the delete all button), Autosave included.
    • Exit the game, and rename the file to the correct name, "Index.html" (with uppercase "I"). and enter the game. Without saves, you should be able to enter again. On the save screen load from disk every save file you created on the prior step and save it to any slot. There you have it.
If you're still getting the WebAPI errors, don't hesitate on contacting me here ASAP and I'll guide you until the game is working again.

You mean, like a scene gallery, isn't it? it's a thing that I've been thinking these months. When I came to a solution (and there is, because I've seen straight games with awesome scene galleries in HTML games) I'll dedicate a full update on this. The idea of having a screen dedicated to an index for scenes of Dalton, Luke, Lazarus, Garrett, etc... is an idea I had for a few months but I need to step up my skills in Sugarcube/Twine to do that. I'll get back at you when I think on a method and start implementing it.

As for this update, I'm really curious but I don't know when I'll try it (I've already downloaded it though) because too much interesting games released recently and I'm starting to have too much tabs in my browser (and I'm too slow...).

The part that bothers me, is that I would need to duplicate almost every sex scene to have a copy for a gallery, they are part of the passages and not as a different entity (Hey, I'm not that good programming!).

It has a persistent gallery, and I'm investigating how he managed to do that, so it's possible. The part that bothers me, is that I would need to duplicate almost every sex scene to have a copy for a gallery, they are part of the passages and not as a different entity (Hey, I'm not that good programming!).
He does it by copying all the code from the event passage(s) into the gallery passage(s). So if he fixes a bug/typo in the event, he has to update the corresponding gallery event too. It's easy to implement, but double the work if you ever want to fix anything.

Another way, which is how I have done it in my two games, is to replay the actual event passages but then having to make checks to see if you're replaying the event or not, and adjust the code accordingly, which can be tricky if you don't plan/prepare your game systems for such a thing beforehand. In Paradise Found, I didn't prepare for it, so when I actually implemented the replay gallery, I gave up trying to avoid bugs when replaying events, so I disabled saving as soon as the player did. But then any event could be replayed if the player wanted. In the Monastery, only certain events will be replayable, so I can then take replayability into account when making them.

I guess that's what I'll end up doing, fortunately, 95% of the sex encounters in the game begin and end the same way (NOT THAT WAY, YOU PERVERTS :eek: ) so it's easy to copy and paste. There are some that are sex battles, and a few ones that doesn't even have the sex action selector I often use... I'll see what I do with them.

If only... you had the experience of your previous game... I... was making things up as I was programming. Totally chaotic and without any logic. Yup, that's my spaghetti code. I need to learn these things so I don't mess up on future games.

Before I forget, there's something I didn't post here: two days ago I posted the poll for the next storyline for the patreons. The voting choices post was public, but I'll copy and paste here:

Hello people! it's time for posting the first poll that will decide the next storyline for the game. The system goes like this: The poll opens up today, and in one month will be closed and I'll announce the results. Then I'll start developing the storyline chosen for the next content update. It's my first poll here, so have a little patience with me, please.

So, Ok, the next content will cover Ursus Inc. The business is owned by Mack Williams, who probably you already met in the game, whether in the Marc-Us Store or through the JCS storyline. Ursus Inc. is a bigger business than JCS, but it's also a risky one. Two storylines will be associated with Ursus, with two very different love interests.

1) Sex worker in Ursus.
Here, you'll explore the rough and hard world prostitution.
  • Daily missions: Face a wide variety of clients, and depending on what you choose (or not) to do on each job you'll have your earning/job progress increased/decreased. Each client will have unique demands so expect a wide array of kinks in these missions.
  • The Love interest in this storyline is Mack Williams, the CEO of Ursus Inc. He's a guy easy to get to bed, but extremely hard to get to his heart. The nature of his job made him that way.
  • Face a storyline where you'll discover Mack's enemies, as well as rival co-workers that are decided to make your life a hell
2) Adult Film star on Ursus Inc.
Here, Mack requests a male and dominant actor for his adult films. You'll need a lot of attitude here, and expect a lot of BDSM action from the point of view of a dominant. This storyline is intended for Dominant players.
  • Daily missions here will be the various films available in the two levels of the job. Depending on your skills, the movie will make you earn more or less money and job progress.
  • Through the first level of the job, you'll meet Julian Dawson, a co-worker, and submissive guy. He's been dumped by his latest boyfriend and master, Donovan, and he's going through a rough patch, even considering leaving his career at Ursus and the BDSM lifestyle. To get to his heart, you must show him, the hard way, that you're the one he has waiting for, despite his past romantic failures.
  • To get to him, you must make him submit, and train him as your sub. But before that, every one of the past 7 masters of Julian, Donovan included, will also try to stop you. One of them may get Julian back if he succeeds, so you have to win over them all when they challenge you. So yeah, technically this is NTR content, but totally avoidable if you win against each ex-master.
So, that's the first batch of storylines. Now it's up to you folks to decide which one will be started first. Eventually, we'll get them all, but the order is all up to you.
So yeah, in the next storyline Ryan will still be whoring as he always do to solve problems.

Whew. Ok, finally, I am at my Home PC. writing from an old ass iPhone 5S, and wrestling with the spanish autocorrector was not fun at all (and the fucking phone only had 15% energy left).

Last Saturday there was massive, almost nationwide, blackout on my country (Venezuela). The power returned 2 hours later... but somehow, one of the underground energy cables on my zone (or whatever cables those are, I don't know shit about electricity at all) ended fried up, leaving my neighborhood completely without power. At all.

It was like camping in my own fucking house, and no means to communicate because my phone wasn't charged up. Holy crap, the energy company here (state energy company, I must say. Wonders of a socialist country) didn't answer at all. Until today. One hour after I wrote that message, the fuckers were finally repairing the cable, and finally I'm back in business. I'll read the thread today, and give you an update of my plans for the next update tomorrow.

Hell, even with no PC, I kept working on the game, writing on pseudocode with pencil and a notebook (you know? those things that boomers like me used to write), the basic functions for the main feature of the September update. Tomorrow more. Sorry for not answering sooner... damnit, I must install the patreon app on the phone for shit like this.

Wade (I know you had some difficulties with him in the past but I was really expecting he would appear in JCS storyline as a client at some point);
And Lloyd (I don't like the character and I'm not that much into a submissive role but the model is really hot).
Do you have some plan to add more for them (alone or in group, sub/dom/switch/reverse, ...)?

Wade is popular, and he have a hot dom scene I would like to do for a sub-centered storyline in the future, and there is one sub scene with him I haven't used. But I didn't think on what storylines he'll appear. The difficulty with Wade, is that sub scenes with him are rare, while he has way more as a dom. He'll have more content in the future.

Lloyd is a character that I created originally to be repulsive... but expect him as an enemy a couple of times more. I'll see what I can do to have him more sex scenes.

I don't have planned more scenes for any of them on the next update, or the next storyline in Ursus, but I'll keep them in mind, given how popular they are.

Hi folks, there is a new hotfix. It fixes a nasty bug on JCS level 3, I recommend everyone to update to this version. You don't need to redownload the big .zip file, you just need to download and replace the Index.html file and you're good to go.

  • Fixed a nasty bug on the log-in link on JCS level 3. When you fail the first day of any of the missions, the game crashed when you tried to log-in the next day.
  • Please remember that I renamed the .html file to the correct name, Index.html.

I was thinking of doing a persistent gallery too so I want to add this to discuss with you if you haven't found a solution yet:

I already have variable to check if players have seen the scenes or not, but now instead of <<set>>, I should use to set that variables, so even if the game is restarted, they still persist in the metadata and all you need to do in the gallery is a simple boolean check. Theoretically, this works, right? I'm not sure though as still being quite inexperienced.

My 2 cents, it's better to do all the setup with variables and checks in the link buttons before going into the scenes, this has caused me a lot of headache. However, I understand this is not always possible to do in some cases.

Thank god I somehow got away without separating my gallery and my actual passage. o_O

Yes, that's the way to it, along with the function recall. I have to read more about it through it but that's the place to store variables and info that persist through different playtroughs.

Don't worry man, It's part of that. I want a persistent gallery where players get to replay any sex scene of a given character. I've thought about it and now I have an idea on how to integrate that concept into the game (not as a boring gallery button). It will be great, if I find time to start working on it :ROFLMAO:

Hi guys! It's been two crazy weeks, but now that everything has calmed down, it's time to start a new series of weekly reports. This would be the second one, due to the fact that a I had to skip the first one thanks to a 3 day blackout in my home that disrupted my work precisely on my update (and launch on F95) week. Damn it.

While I had my dev thread here, during the last update, I made weekly posts reporting about everything done in the week, usually by monday. Now I'm planning to do the same here, just on tuesday/wednesday. So let's begin with our 2x1 offer.

Everything went smoothly, for the most part. On the week 1, I did the first hotfix (thanks to an unfortunate name change on the .html file). I started to code the system for the random events, but then that week the blackout hit, and I lost 3 days (almost four). During the blackout, I just wrote on a notebook on pseudo code the boring programming stuff I planned to do on that weekend, so when the power returned on week 2, I had something to work on.

On week 2 (last week) I started to code what I had on my notes. It went... good, bugs here and there but in two days I had the random event system implemented, with two non-sexual events that happen randomly. The concept is very simple: When you move from one location to another through the map, one random event might happen. After the event ends, you're on the location you selected earlier. Of course, not all events are so "friendly" and some may end you in other places (like, for example jail) so it leads us to the second system I implemented last week.

If you get busted by the cops for having a fight, that should be reflected somewhere, so I went and did the criminal record system, where it tracks the infractions you do. Cause enough mayhem, and you'll have the visit of the not-so-friendly-and-always-horny GGPD to sent you to jail. This system will be important on one future storyline, involving criminal gangs/police in the future. For now, it just affects some random events on the map. So how do you view your criminal record or try to erase it? if you have enough computer skills, you'll have the chance to hack to the GGPD system and do that. Better get started learning programming.

I also had the second hotfix, 0.20b with a fix when you fail any job on level 3. Get it here on the first post if you haven't already, it's just the .html file.

I'm also investigating more about a persistent scene gallery, where you can replay scenes from past playthroughs. I'll have more info on that next week.

Now, before I end, about the next update (0.21): As you know, there is a poll on my patreon about what storyline go next (Sex worker or adult film star) so we'll have to wait until september 10th when the poll closes to know what will be the next storyline (if you join before september 10th you have the chance to vote). So the next update won't be about the storyline, so I decided to focuse it on the random events (at least five), along with some systems in place (like the criminal record or the scene gallery) and one or two extra locations to explore. It's a rather small update but it will be the base for future storylines.
