If I were you, I'd just download the windows build and then use the

as a launcher. All you have to do is extract GTU into your Renpy SDK directory, then run renpy.app. The SDK will let you launch the game as a 'project' no matter what platform it was built for. So if there's not an updated mac build available (no matter the VN), you could just get the windows or linux version instead. This should work for almost all renpy VNs except in special circumstances.

Here I'm running the windows version of GTU on linux using the same method:

Also worth mentioning, you can use the "Build Distributions" option to easily make your own mac build if you wanted to.
