Save from the current version (currently 0.39) will not work on any previous version. But saves from 0.38->0.39 work. I have personally checked this.
If you want to use your save, here is a working link to the previous version 0.38c.

This bug has been discussed for several pages already. Wait for a fixed version (0.39d) or complete this event in version 0.38c and transfer the save to the new version.
