Adult content on Gumroad
In accordance with the policies of our payment processing partners, including Stripe and PayPal, we do not allow sales of the sexually explicit content.

What is sexually explicit?
Sexually explicit content is media that is created for the primary purpose of sexual gratification - fetish content, media with characters depicted in sexual situations, or content that is clearly produced for titillation. If your products can be understood as being primarily for sexual purposes, then they are not eligible to be sold on Gumroad.

To be clear, this includes all types of media: photography, videos, animations, illustrations, written media, audiobooks, and audio products. This can include but is not limited to:

  • Avatars in compromising or sexual positions or avatars that advertise NSFW uses or explicit modifications like "breast expansions"
  • Animated pornographic videos
  • Fetish-driven content
  • Financial domination content
  • Sketches/artwork where the content's focus is sexual gratification
  • Videos with lingerie or nudity
  • Audio-erotica or role-play audio
  • Adult comics with nudity or sexual acts
  • Cosplay/boudoir/lewd photography that's focused on sexual activity
  • 3D models built for explicitly sexual purposes
  • Sexual coaching services or explicit instructional content
  • Animated nudity or characters portrayed in sexual situations
Selling NSFW Work
Some adult content is allowed on Gumroad. For example, we have been allowed to allow a creator who sells photo-packs of their cosplays to their audience. We encourage you to ask if your content is acceptable under our terms of service if you have concerns. If you are allowed to sell your work on Gumroad, you must flag it as NSFW:

  1. Go to your product's edit page
  2. Click on "Share"
  3. Scroll down to the "Discover" section
  4. Switch on the toggle indicating that the product is only meant for adults
This ensures your content is only shown to customers who opt in to see adult content. Tag your products responsibly!

There was some ppl selling cool 3D models on this platform, sad they will lose their platform.
I myself not really upset, Gumroad is garbage to navigate, i either already knew the artist i like from other platform, or i wouldn't find anything i want just by browsing gumroad.

I looked around for alternatives and ran across

They're a sex-worker ran/founded website that caters to NSFW stuff, obviously. They posted a tweet about expanding into NSFW art. Could be a way for AVN devs to have another backup for Patreon too, as it seems they have subscription options.

Can anyone tell us if a site (like the one mentioned here) or anything else "takes over" the adult side of crowd-funded content? I'd like to join up there when the dust settles. Please keep us all updated when one of them takes control of the situation.

Yeah, Patreon restricted their idea of what "consent" means. Technically, rape/mindcontrol and that sort of thing is already banned there. But now they've gone into fem/male dom and BDSM stuff too, unless it's made clear that it's consentual beyond just saying so in a disclaimer.

That is for IRL porn content. They've not updated their art/fictional stuff yet. Their account replied "yes" when someone asked if they allow incest erotica.

SubscribeStar allows basically anything. People sell art on Affect3d too. Which is another NSFW specific website.

The thing is how long will it take for them to ban subscribestar too because at least point all of these porn bans seems to be happening in the span of a week

1. Pornhub got the Texas ban.

2. Patreon got stricter restrictions on what they deem consensual so essentially an excuse to ban anyone on a whim with no explanation e.g taffy tales only had 3 days till they got completely banned today.

3. Pixiv and itch.io both have PayPal and stripe so sooner or later they will come after them also. Pixiv has literally been banning western 3d porn artists over the past few months due to there art being realistic apparently . Even Japanese artists who have similar art to them are being banned with no notice.

4. Gumroad is gonna become the new tumblr by the end of today.

5. So all of these creators are gonna move to subscribestar then the same occurrence will occur due to its popularity where card providers will pressure them to ban the content again and the viscous cycle continues.

Apparently stripe stopped processing payments on gumroad and PayPal didn’t like the content so they flat out told them if they want to use their services they need anything nsfw removed immediately. And they notified them yesterday and they have until the end of today to either sell there stuff and delete it before the ban occurs and after that any person that tries to purchase from any nsfw artist the payment won’t go through. Sad part is that they have 24hrs to figure it out and find a new platform but worse is how are they going to capture there former customers too is another problem

  1. Pornhub. Actually EVERY site that provides pornographic material is "banned" for viewing in Texas if they don't follow the new state law provision (introduction and passed by a conservative state government) that has been upheld in the US Federal Courts. That state law provision makes access to adult content online similar to that if a person attempted to access it in person within the state of Texas. It requires websites hosting pornographic material to verify users' ages through methods such as viewing their government-issued identification - same as if you were to walk into an adult bookstore or strip joint in the state. Texas is one of 7 US states with similar laws now on the books.

  2. Your use of "whim" isn't so. They made clear that their non-consensual guideline, which as been on their site for over 6 years, includes "consensual" non-consensual activities. Meaning that because of the difficulty in discerning if a scene containing rapeplay is actually rape or simply roleplay (and developers labeling actual non-con activities as consensual) - they now no longer allow the above. BDSM is still allowed, however.

As for Taffy Tales and Uberpie. We are only getting one side of the version, from Uberpie. Remember, he had already been reviewed once back in the beginning and was on his second chance. Still, he included content which Patreon eventually decide was against their guidelines. Everything else is whether you believe Uberpie.

  3. If Pixiv and itch.io do us PayPal and/or Stripe - yup, they're going to need to get in compliance with those payment processors or change processors.

  4. First of all, was Gumroad really that big? Second of all... ooooo oh noes. Also, Tumblr had definitely decreased in popularity, but it still racks up an average of over 200 million visitors per month. That said, it was still holding it's own after the 2018-2019 purge until after the COVID quarantine started to fade.

  5. Those who move to Subscribestar, or anywhere, should be aware that because of the content they make, that their time on any platform depends upon payment processor influences. When you choose to earn a living in an industry that traditionally is shunned by the general public, it's going to be a greater risk - even greater than the normal venture.
However, in the end, this is to say - there is no reason to be a Henny Penny. Porn is still vastly more legally accessible today than it has ever been in the past, or very nearly so.

Gumroad knew they were playing with fire because Stripe and PayPal has been very upfront about what content they found acceptable for their clients to use them as payment processors. And yet, Gumroad still intentionally allowed content they knew would get them in hot water (in order to make a buck even when they knew they would eventually get caught) or they only put up minimal enforcement in the hopes it would be enough to satisfy the payment processors (again, for profits).

Now, creators who thought they could get around Stripe and PayPal's policies by being on Gumroad are adversely affected. Though, again, they should have known this day would come since they were taking Stripe and/or PayPal payments.

Either way, it's Business Ethics 101 in practice. Fuck around and found out.

It actually startet a couple of years ago, with an us-bill from 2018 called FOSTA/SESTA.
Its intent was to stop sex trafficing but because of its phrasing/wording it kinda targeted everything sexual that's in some way illegal (no matter if real or cgi/drawn) and made it that credit card companies are accomplices when used as payment methods for those kind of things and can be held fully accountable to punishment.

Fearing that they will end up in court, the credit card companies threatened all sorts of porn and NSFW sites to withdraw their services if they did not remove such content and change their policies.
Of course, most complied, even such a big site as PornHub. Others have perished because of it.

That's also the reason so many sites have changed their NSFW policies within the last 6 years.

So it's not that the credit card companies want to do that, after all they are missing big money because of it.
One must not forget that companies are not people, they have no morals, they only care about money and their public image, which in itself affects their revenues. Every decision they make is money oriented.

TL;DR: New Us laws in 2018 -> credit card companies might get punished -> they force websites/-services to change their NSFW-policies -> no lewds for everybody anymore -> :(

Well, come on. "no lewds for everybody anymore" is too simplified. Again, legal access to porn has never been more available in the history of the world than in the past 5 years. Also, even with some of this apparent clawback, porn has never been so widely accepted around the world than it is currently.

Damn well does that mean each creator has to put something along the lines of a speech bubble saying they consent to what is happening for them to get a pass on Patreon?
