I get that it might be a good storytelling thing and that there are instances of stuff like that happening all the time IRL but I don't want reality in my escapism. I want stories where all my favorite characters end up happy and any bad people get punished and/or cucked.

You must have done something wrong in the translation that exceeded the limits.
Whenever you translate a game, start the game first, then get the correct version of Renpy's through the log it creates on the first startup.
That way you can use the correct version the game was made with.
I thought it was something related to a translation, which is why I mentioned what I did. Otherwise, it could be an error or bug in some script.
Honestly im all for dev's allowing LI to die in these games as long as there is a choice to stop it. Because one thing that kind of bugs me in these games. I feel the MC and all the LI are usually too safe. Like they might get in a dangerous situation but they are rarely ever hurt or worst. So while they might be put in danger because how often LI feel too safe for me in general I never feel a sense of danger for any of the characters in these games until it actually happens. So when I see a LI can die or get hurt I actually like the dev for having the balls to do something like that. but AL is different cause that one was just stupid and no way to stop it.
Yea that was a rough time, started that game... I didn't make it pass the daughter it was too much, I said fuck this shit and deleted it. Dream of Reality was also pretty bad, the only redeeming quality is that vengeance was technically possible, but frankly it such a fucking downer still.
Their are a bunch of sadists or emotional masochists roaming this site, they love it when good people suffer, it make their little black hearts tremble in pleasure. I do agree that I really wish they'd keep all that shit off games, but that being said, I prefer them to experience those in games rather than in life, in particular in the case of the sadists, its for the best its kept to games.
