how i can fix it
You can try deleting the 'persistent' file from your save folder and your appdata folder.

I haven't played in a few updates. Had to cut back on my patreon spending and this was a casualty. Was thinking about picking it up again, but really don't want to have to start from scratch - which I would have to do since I don't remember much about the character stories.

Does anyone know how close to completion the game is? I checked the last few pages of the thread but didn't see anything.

v.0.17 was released in on the 17th of June 2023, v.0.18 was released on the 2nd (I think) of September 2024.
Assuming there will be a v.0.19, a v.0.20.... all the way up to v.1.00 (full release), that would be another 82 interim releases.
If each release takes more than a year to release, that would be an estimated full release in .. eh, 2106 sometime?

EDIT: In case it isn't clear the above rant is humor, sarcasm and does not reflect any perceived faults with the devs. It's simply a poke at a silly question.

Since the story is far from completion, I would guess several years.

Surely the story is not going to reach an epilogue in the next year.

If it took six years for it to get to .18, don't expect this game done before the decade's over. Hell it might not even be done before the 2030s are over. I'll either be in my 60s by that time or dead. Someone tell me what happens to Lin in the afterlife.

You realise that it version number doesn't go from 0.01 to 1.0, right? For all we know, Runey could hit V0.2 and that's the natural end to the story.

Yeah, I get that. I was around here four years ago under a different name, I know how things go, no need to educate me. Doesn't change the fact that most of us here will be above middle age before this game gets closed to finish. I'll be in an old age home or dead. Have fun waiting another 10+ years or so for this to game to finish. I have better things to do than to wait for my death while waiting for this game.

In the first page of the thread, in the top right corner is an option to ignore this thread.
You will never again have to waste any time seeing notifications about Harem Hotel.

I am only posting this, since you seem to have given up on the game, and based on what you said, no longer want to bother with it.
Since the game will not be completed quickly enough for you to continue with it.

And others are toodler or midle age or old age... ...Runey could abord the game tomorrow for reasons (purely hypothetical)... ...WWIII could happen and we would be back a stone and spear if we are lucky or unlucky...
Game is not finished and we simple don't know when it will be.;)

Because half-elves fit in that line where they don't count as either human or elf.
The wording of such protections tend to be quite specific, that specific nature means that there actually can be a grey area. For example, a line might say "Those who possess an elven slave cannot punish said slave to such an extent that they require hospitalisation." There's nothing in there about half-elves or humans. And seeing how humans can't be made a slave, you can see where people can interpret those protections and decide that half-elves don't count.
