It sounds like you cheated in some way, friendship values need to be very specific otherwise things break.

The game tells you how to play, it could not be more simple. I suggest reading the tips when you start the game, even though that's not very necessary either.

I might be actually stupid then, because that didn't help me that much. The intro just tells you to talk to the girls and wait for a bit between events. I already did that, now all I can see on the info screen is a bunch of yellow exclamation marks below the girls' names, of which I ignore the meaning.
What am I doing wrong?

Second step would be to not ignore the meaning of the exclamation marks. That means events are ready.

Regarding my previous message, I did some investigations and it seem like the issue lies with Maria's event with Nia in the Garden.
Maria's friendship increased to 37 but I think the event flag isn't marked as true/1.
If I change it back to 36, the event will be triggered again.
May I know what's the event name so I can manually change the flag to continue?

Is it possible to find out whether the problem is on my side or something else?

Level 37 with Maria means you have completed her story. Events occur depending on a character's level. There is no event flag.

Right, this error happens when a character's level is too high, higher than can normally happen in an uncheated, unmodified version of the game.

I got the same problem, the wiki says to be in the lobby in the afternoon, but nothing happens for me, I'm gonna just row through the days to see if it's a certain day of the week or if any side characters like nia need to be brought up

Neither is the case. If it's still not working, it's likely you're on a save from v0.11 or v0.12 and played through a patron only beta build. To fix this, you will need to open the console and type `kalicollege = 4` or restart.

tried to reload, tried to rollback and every time just the error message without the ignore part..
tried the save game file with 0.14 which i still have and it worked fine without problem ...

Had the same issue loading into the lobby. I used the back button (which was a scene in a different location), ignoring the "you have completed X's content", and then progressed fine after.

I do wish for the best with Lain, its entirely possible that she just did a silent retreat from the internet due to a change in her personal life. Could be nothing negative, like wanting to start a family or something of that nature where modding was no longer a priority so she shut down her pages to not charge people if she didnt plan to update anymore. Some dev's I.E. The Simbro Team still have their patreon up 4 years later with 0 updates and 199 patreons still giving to them for some reason, so if it is her just leaving the internet not under bad circumstances I'm glad she took the approach she did rather than leaving the page up. Though I'd like to be optimistic and hope my guess is closer to the actual circumstances as I don't want it to be a situation where she actually is in a bad spot, though we will probably only find out what happened to her if she chooses to share one day which is her decision to make, were all just anons and she doesn't owe us an explination.

Yeah, the only reason I doubt a scenario like that is, if she shut the Subscribestar account down of her own volition rather than it being closed by SSS over her unresponsiveness, why did she wait until just the last couple of weeks to do it rather than at the same time she ostensibly pulled up stakes from the modding scene back in late October? In that scenario, it was kinda shitty of her to collect several additional months of subscription payments without telling her subscribers they wouldn't be getting anything further for their money. But, meh, I'm not one of them so it's none of my business (I was this close to joining, but I was waiting for the Photo Hunt mod update that never came); I just tend to give people the benefit of the doubt so it's easier for me to believe something happened to her than that she scammed her fans.

I think you've got it backwards. Shortly after she went dark, someone posted here that they had been working with her on a game, and just like us, had stopped hearing from her, and as a result felt he had no choice but to publicly fire her from the project in the course of explaining the situation to his subscribers and soliciting for a new programmer to take her place (I actually really felt sorry for the guy, it was a game that apparently already had some history of delays and under-delivering on promises for update features, so when this happened all the 'fans' that didn't know about the Lain situation from other threads just dogpiled on him with "oh more BS excuses", "guess this game is the new Milfy City" and the like). Skimming over her posts going back from the last one just before Halloween to a few months before she disappeared, I don't see anything about a new job, but feel free to correct me if it's there and I just missed it.

I really do hope you guys are right and she just moved on without feeling obligated to tell anyone, but I still have a really bad feeling about this. It's funny, I don't even know the lady, never met her and almost certainly never will, don't think I ever even conversed with her directly on this site, but her work has been so valuable to this community not only in terms of making good games more playable but also acting as a sort of seal of quality - if a game had a Lain mod, I knew it was worth my attention - that it feels like a serious loss.
