Its saying this kind of shit that enables lazy developers. Its been almost 10 months, excuses can only go so far.
You are gonna get flamed to kingdom come, but honestly that is the issue exactly.
I would even go so far as to say why do we all know so much detail about the dev's personal life and situation?
It's totally inappropriate. It has just become the norm that many devs nowadays start telling the whole world about their personal issues - every other dev nowadays has some long dramatic saga about how their grandma has cancer, or they just had kids and they are struggling to adapt to their newfound responsibilities, or they themselves have a major health issue, or their relative died and they are dealing with closing out the estate, etc. etc. etc... This is not exclusive to adult games either by the way... I have seen the same exact thing on a lot of indie game projects. You know what they all have in common though? PATREON. You do not see this business on Steam games. You see it in spades on games where people are not paying a fixed price for a product, but rather paying a monthly subscription type fee to "support" the game.
The cold hard truth is *everyone* goes through shit like this. That's life. The difference is that 99.99% of us don't stop working for several months to years at a time over it and still collect income. It really feels like what we are starting to see is a blending of game development support platforms becoming quasi-gofundme-ish, and it's sutbly implied that "ohhhh you should just keep throwing money my way because, um, feel bad for my situation and stuff..."
That's why a few people with thick skin who are not afraid of getting flamed (myself included) don't feel like absolute monsters speaking up about it. This stuff is going a tad bit too far, keep your personal life personal. If you are going to take a hiatus from developing for several months maybe just let your supporters know that and throw the Patreon on pause instead of just playing harp strings with gullible folks' emotions and milking them as long as you can get away with it?
