Out of curiosity, can I ask who the main LI you're referring to is? I'm still playing through since I pick the game up once in a while and play a bit before putting it down again, but I realised quite early on that my dislike for one of the characters (and I think we're possibly talking about the same one) was hampering my progression, completely halting it at one point because I'd been putting off interacting with her for so long and suddenly had to main-line her events to progress with anyone else.

My comment could possibly need to be clearer, but the person I replied to mentioned a main LI that he finds more worthy of hate than Ellen. I know Ellen and, like everyone else I've seen commenting about her other than the first guy, I see no reason to dislike her other than how she originally treated Pixel. Otherwise, she's always helpful to basically anyone that needs it and is a good-looking woman in her, what, mid 30s? Unless someone's whole thing is hating inoffensive characters, I have to imagine the comment about her was ragebait. The LI Dan mentioned, I think, is a much more interesting talk.

Highest likelihood based on the description would be Ashley. Her narrative early game is fairly non-existent and you eventually hit a point with the other girls where you simply have no choice but to go down that road if you wish to continue. All of the girls interweave to some degree, but you hit a point where if you haven't gotten Lin or Ashley leveled up, you aren't going anywhere with the narrative.
