Just remember that this is not one of the many games on F95 where fapping content is the main reason for its existance.
This is a visual novel, that does have sex in it, but the deeper that you go into the story, the more complex that the story becomes.

Technical question: I'm using the mod, so when update arrives I assume I'll have to wait for mod to be updated too, patch both game and mod, otherwise my savefile will have its fairy wings ripped off?
Also how big in terms of content/playtime previous patches were? I discovered this game already in v.17 so I was able to play through entirety of it and I was wondering what actually I can expect.

yes if you have been using the walkthrough mod it will break your saves if you try to play them without the mod so you would have to wait for the mod to be updated to the new version of game or start a new save.
in terms of update size it depends on your reading speed every main girl gets 1 or 2 new events per an update and the dev some times adds more content to side characters or redo's some of the older events but generally I would say playtime for new updates is somewhere around 2 hours of content per an update depending on what the dev focuses on.
It depends on the mod, last time I checked, Lain's mod did not lock saves, but you will probably not be able to use the mod until it has been updated (certainly not on the new events).
