Have you ever done something stupid because you wanted to or couldn't get it out of your head, even though other people were telling you it's a bad idea?

Of course you have. We all have. It's part of being human. Or half-elf, I guess, in this case.

My point is, you're being silly.

For the sings there are the eyes for starters
The eyes show "some dark elf ancestry." Ashley has them (purple, not pink), and is 6% dark elf. Ellen has them as well, and is also not a half-elf. Hana doesn't have them, and is a half-elf (but not dark elf). Maria wears contacts, so she's been (with some regularity) to an eye doctor--obviously there was no suspicion of her being a half-elf during any of those exams.
there is the extremely slow learning
Source? She was a good student (aced every class in college with a double major, while also being the head cheerleader) and considers herself very intelligent, neither of which is consistent with this. Ashley's been shown to have more trouble with school than Maria has.

Even if this were true, I wouldn't consider it a sign of her being a half-elf; Kate has a bona fide learning disability and (as far as we know) has no elvish ancestry.
she looks rather young for how old she is
What? She's 21. I'd say she looks 21, give or take. She looks a good bit more mature than Ashley's 19, at least on par with Lucy (22), a little younger than Autumn (25-26) and Kali (25)--all of whom (except Ashley) are 100% human. When we first meet her at school with Ashley at age 6 (well, Ashley's six, which would mean Maria's 8), she looks like a normal girl of that age and again not notably different (especially not notably younger) from the others.
screenshot0022.png
Hana, IMO, looks young for her age (also 21). Ashley looks young for her age--growing up malnourished will do that. Maria doesn't.

Again, I completely get not liking the sequence--I don't like it either. You don't enjoy watching someone you love get hurt. It's not as bad as chapter 5 in MBML, but it's bad enough. But to say it breaks her story is a stretch, and to say it breaks the overall story is just ridiculous.

But this discussion brings to mind something else that doesn't make sense to me, and that's the secrecy surrounding the Sanctuary, and specifically this from F&E's last event:
screenshot0024.png
As of the end of 18.1, we have Lin, Jin, Maria, Hana, Nia, Sylvia, Ann, Cira, and Peni living with us--7 elves, 2 half-elves. All but Hana and Cira are properly registered and documented--Lin was already there; Jin, Nia, Sylvia, Ann, and Peni were bought through the HHI; Maria was also bought and registered. Lin, Jin, Maria, and Hana live in the hotel proper; the remaining 5 live in the Sanctuary.

So sure, if the cops come and search the sanctuary (which apparently--and inexplicably--they didn't do during Lin's last story event), there's a problem if they find Cira. But to any kind of casual observer, there shouldn't be a problem.

Granted, MC's using his grandfather's license. Again, a problem in the event of some sort of government inspection (and Cornwall's aware of it).

But still, there are six elves and one half-elf registered there. So why does she think there are only two?

Hi all quick question - I just started playing this. Curious if you can tell me what the update cadence is? Every few months, twice a year, once a year, etc?

Thanks!

I think it's usually two or three updates a year. This year's been rough though and has been atypical.

Real Reason: Plot.

Game Reason: Fely is a very emotional person. She just found a new family and her father is trying to take it from her. Thus she thinks it will be easier to sacrifice herself. If MC was around he would point out the same things you did but he isn't.

True, but this is before we see Felicity outside. Ellen's outside, yes, but we don't see Felicity outside until after this exchange. Drone operator says there are lots of elves, "mysterious woman" says there are only two registered. She says this to him ("man in blue shirt," even though his shirt is green), not to Felicity, who is still inside at the time. They're trying to dig up dirt on MC, and for some reason think they've found it--but none of what they've seen is actually dirt. And if the woman has access to the registration records--which she sure ought to, if Daddy's one of Cornwall's buddies--she knows that.

Same when Kali goes to Ellen to tell her about the drone--she says, "if they find the sanctuary..." as if it were something illegal. But it isn't--it's a separate building full of legally-owned and registered (with one exception) elves (and even though one of the residents there is unregistered, there are easily enough registered elves on the premises to account for everyone who lives at the sanctuary). OK, there are six beds and four legal elves there--so what? Maybe MC's planning on buying more (which isn't far from the truth). I'm sure it looks weird for MC to own these elves and just leave them there at leisure, but if he's bought them, isn't that his affair?

Sure, once Felicity gets there, the woman lies to her--she'll tell her anything to get her to come, and succeeds. And I don't think Felicity knows about the Sanctuary, nor about who's living there, so when the woman (I don't recall if we ever see her name) says "we know about the unregistered elves," that's effective.

Edit: on a somewhat different note, though, it's good from a storytelling perspective to see MC actually face some consequences, because he's had an incredibly charmed life through 0.17. Not only does he have a dozen or so beautiful women falling head over heels for him, he's also pissing off the rich and powerful left and right, with absolute impunity. We're told (at the beginning of F&E's last event) that as an immigrant, he's in a precarious position, but he's (figuratively) spat in the face of an organized crime boss, he's repeatedly and directly defied what's apparently the most powerful politician in the area despite his own paperwork not being in order (sure, Cornwall doesn't seem to care that MC's using his grandfather's license--for now), he's committed multiple violent crimes, and his elf--whom Cromwell knows on sight--started the biggest protest in recent history. But he continues his blissful, consequence-free life, until 0.18.

It isn't that I want bad things to happen to MC, but with this much FA, he has to get to FO at some point--and that point is apparently beginning. I expect, and hope, it will all come to a happy ending, and don't really want the drama, but it definitely makes the story better.

Last time I played this game was in 2020 and this game was like 2GB but had a lot of content. At time took me almost one week to finish all girls history. Revisiting it now makes me very happy that Runey still cooking, so when I got time I will play it again. Btw Lin and Android still being the best girls for me.

My garden upgrade disappeared but I can't buy it again from Ellen. I've been playing on and off so I was likely a version behind. I was using the cheat thing as well. I tried downloading the latest and using no mods but it didn't help. I had done 0 work on the garden so I lose nothing if I just reset it. Can I just edit my save so I can buy the upgrade again?

Editing save files is error prone, even for experts of the game architecture.

This is true for any Ren'Py games, and for HH in particular, because precise steps in variable increases are what trigger events amd determine what you can and cannot do.

I suggest you starting from this save at what i think it should be the beginning of v0.18 new contents.

---

P.S. If you used mods, your persistent file might be corrupted.

Sorry, I don't have backed up my persistent file at the time of that save. :(

If using my save doesn't solve the issue, you may want to:

1) MAKE A BACKUP of your persistent file

2) delete it both from your game folder and from your appdata folder

If even this doesn't work... Delete all saves/persistent from both folders ad start from scratch :HideThePain:

I just keep getting an error whenever I upgrade the back plot of the garden. I don't know if it prevents me moving on with the story or not.
