When's Version 19?
It's a fair question, ignore the sarcastic replies.
Runey apparently just got back from one of his famous illnesses. You know, the ones where he just can't work on the game for seven weeks, doesn't communicate anything about it until afterwards, and pretends he isn't just trying to keep people on the $10 Patreon tier a little longer.

They'll probably be another beta out in a couple weeks, but it's hard to predict further than that since he's on his BS again.

Before or after he himself post here the new update of the game?
I found it very amusing that one of the few devs that is/was active here, interact with the community, post the game for free here, getting shit by some of the very same community. I don't know what he currently is doing or what the might or not might have, but my stance with this is the same since the beginning.

  • We shall be happy with almost any of the devs that are here and interact with us
  • We shall be even more happy if any devs release their game here for free themself
  • We shall not attack the dev in person or any of his supporters for the only reason they support him (it is their money to do so)
  • We have every right to decide with our feet, regardless if we are supporter or not
  • We should try to be civilised

1. Piracy is immaterial, the full release of the game is free.
2. Runey doesn't post anything here except the occasional comment, and tbqh, he doesn't come off great in most of them. 3.IDK what you're on about, we DL the game with same links as everyone else, and it's weird that you're acting like it's some great service he does for the F95 boards in particular.
4. I can assure you, I have not (and will never) attack Runey in person :KEK:
5. This makes no sense, did you have a stroke? If you're trying to express I'm free to leave, that's true, but I'm also free to stay.
6. We should! Like not gaslighting people about what's going on when they ask a fair question (standard for this thread).

You're wrong. In the past he was here, we talked with him, then as often, his visit become more seldom and even more.

If you don't like something, don't support it aka buying or download it and playing. Therefore, decide with your feet. And no, I don't have a stroke every time some strange kebab in a space suit write something on a message board.

Yes, I do like giving answer to questions that we have been answer by themself if their use a little of their own time and check the links in the OP (Patreon, Discord, Twitter, SubscribeStar or itch.io). Or I can simple state unknown as it is 100% precise but also 100% unhelpful, alternative would be ?, perhaps and a vary more of the same, regardless in how many words you write it, the answer to "WhEn UpDaTe?" is simple unknown.

Agreed, but let's be honest, some people just like to cause issues.

Updates come when they come. Asking when it's coming will, at best, delay the actual release. Best case scenario.

Worst case scenario it significantly delays releases when people who are irrationally impatient are consuming a dev's time because they have to be told what they probably already knew. It'll come when it comes.

Especially a game like Harem Hotel which has a notoriously slow development cycle. Especially when dealing with people who feel entitled to know every little detail of a person's life and who when being told a person was out of commission for 7 weeks, responds, "Bullshit, this is a conspiracy!" Incidentally, your life sounds spoiled if you've never lived with someone who can go whole weeks maybe only having one or two 'good' days where they're symptom free and not drugged out of their mind dealing with the 'bad' days.

You know, the ones where he just can't work on the game for seven weeks, doesn't communicate anything about it until afterwards, and pretends he isn't just trying to keep people on the $10 Patreon tier a little longer.
If you want to micromanage employees- which any good manager would tell you is a terrible idea- you should contract out a studio, not pretend that paying 10 bucks on a Patreon entitles you to that. If you dislike the idea of supporting this project.... don't? There's free releases and the dev usually produces huge amounts of content per update.

First of all: I AM A STACK OF FLUFFY GOLDEN PANCAKES, AND I HAVE BEEN TO SPACE! WHO THE F#%& ARE YOU?

Second: You know you can just ignore questions if you don't feel like answering them? It's easier to do that than to post images giving trite meme responses.

Third: Just because I can leave, doesn't mean I have to, I can also stay, and point out what I am seeing. If you want to exist in a hugbox, try Bluesky (or Runey's discord).

IDK where to even start with this...
You seem to have jumped from "asserting that the dev is dishonest" to "harassing them online for updates". Which is weird, because all I did was point out that he dipped out for 7 weeks with a flimsy excuse (which he has a history of doing). Unless he's stalking these boards like a creep, people asking about updates here costs him 0 time.
I also don't get how "slow roll progress on the game since I'm being paid monthy" qualifies as a "conspiracy", for reasons beyond the obvious that a conspiracy requires two or more people.

Also, now Runey is somehow chronically ill, and only has a few good days every few weeks? Yeah, sure, that's way more likely to be the truth. :KEK:

This game has an *absurd* development cycle for what it is, he's making six figures a year off of this very basic VN, and has been doing so for 5 years.

Gotta say... you're more than a bit incoherent, my guy ;)

People want to pay for it. If you're not paying for it.... tough? And after expenses he's probably not pulling six figures. Being self employed ain't cheap and depending on where he lives he's either paying for his own health insurance or he lives somewhere he'd probably WANT to pay for private insurance. To say nothing of how he's either paying for help or he's doing everything himself, in which case the development speed makes perfect sense.

Also, seven years.

Which is weird, because all I did was point out that he dipped out for 7 weeks with a flimsy excuse (which he has a history of doing).
Chronic conditions are like that. You might not like it but there's not a convenient cure for everything out there and sometimes the cure is as bad as the disease. There's whole classes of illnesses that boil down to, 'lmao I don't have an immune system.'

Unless he's stalking these boards like a creep, people asking about updates here costs him 0 time.
It's never just asking about an update. And they'd get to interact with people like you who is either paying for something they don't want- can't help you there, have you considered not paying?- or is upset that something they're not paying for isn't being developed at the pace they want. In which case, deal with it. You're whining about a free product.

Third: Just because I can leave, doesn't mean I have to, I can also stay, and point out what I am seeing.
Usually when you don't like something, you just ignore it.

I am more of the silent type who will wait as I know that I cant do anything to speed it up.
But I also want to give my opinion here.
I do have to agree with G.Pancake in general. Rune was more active in the past. There were a lot more informations about updates, sneekpeeks in the past. He was also really active here, then he got mad at the people here and left for a while (when people wrote they dont like the story for example), then came back and interacted again (and repeat). Sometimes I see him in Discord, but that also lessond compared to the past.
The time between updates was also really quick compared to other devs. I thought thats maybe to much in the past and I was worried about burn out for him.

But for the last 2 years its one story after the other why it takes so long. Maybe all are true, or only some, or none, I dont know. But it is true that how it is now is nothing like it was in the past. So I see no issue to point that out.
And I dont think blindly attacking someone who points that out is the better thing to do, then just replying to someone who asked for news of the update (not everyone is on discord and here we have close to no news at all).

And about we are all pirates. I for my part am on the lowest tier. If a new updated comes I will upgrade, but between updates I'll downgrad again. I do want to show support. But I dont want to be milked as it currently is with the development of the game. All together I already paid more then for a normal full price title. So no, we are not all "only" pirates.

This thread has turned into about 5 people who religiously defend Runey, despite a year between updates (and then it was a small, maybe 40-60 hours of work update), and the occasional person who asks when it will be updated, who then gets vilified by the regulars. Its... all... so... familiar...

*Stares at MilfyCity and BigBrother*. If only there were devs who made a popular game, with good art, and updated regularly, then hit it big, then started slowing the release cycle, stopped communicating, and only released updates when they got hit with "abandoned" or their patreon numbers started going down. Who had board of people who reacted aggressively to anyone pointing out the situation. Until the devs completely ghosted or "completed" their game with less content than they said they had done already.

If you weren't paying, you don't exactly have room to complain. Life is expensive, you don't need porn games. The fact that you're getting a free version of the game is already incredibly generous, the overwhelming majority of indie games don't make back their money, this is frequently a hobby business / side gig for people so you take what you can get. People work north of 40 hours a week to make ends meet.

If you were paying, I don't know why you're here. Especially if it's not to talk about the game but instead to talk about the business side of things.

and the occasional person who asks when it will be updated, who then gets vilified by the regulars.
...Because there is absolutely no reason to ask that. The update comes when it comes. If you're a paying customer, you wouldn't be asking on a third party website and if you weren't... it comes when it comes. If you don't like that, I don't know why you're even here. Go anywhere else, the game will either come out eventually and you'll have saved yourself a boatload of fretting and stress, or it never comes out and that thing you didn't like ended up amounting to nothing anyways.

Some projects hold themselves to strict deadlines. Most don't. If you value it that much- even though it's a waste of dev time to create these monthly updates so you're paying to have your time wasted- support devs who operate at that level.

This trend of people who are most likely not financially supporting projects claiming offense on behalf of people who do is very strange. If you are paying into it.... stop? Your wallet is the only means of recourse you have against a developer you feel isn't up to your standards. Stop supporting them.
