Because this isn't the proper release, it's the pre-release some dipstick leaked on here.
I tried your save file. Works fine, or at least loads, thank you. However, I cannot get it to load with Lain's mod installed. Does anybody have a save file I can use with Lain's mod? I hope I don't have to go back to the beginning.

It's too big for mega.
With the download size limitations, you would still have to wait hours for the download to resume.
Which means that downloads won't be much faster than some of the available options.
Since the available version is known to have many bugs in it, I suggest waiting for just under 2 weeks to download the updated version that has bug fixes in it.
Perhaps someone will upload a mega version of that release.

Give up on lains mod.
Updates for it may never happen, and you can not use older versions of lains mod with newer versions of the game.
Older mods in newer versions of games rarely ever ends well for the player.
It usually results in a broken game that won't load, or crashes while trying to play.

It also gives nothing the game doesn't already do, albeit with slightly fewer steps. The main benefit of the mod is the old scenes it restored, but in terms of FAQ the game does this for you - you just have to click on the girl's door. I'm sure it can be argued that it's more intuitive than that, but for the save issues it gives when new versions are released, it simply doesn't offer enough (beyond the restored scenes) to combat the headache you get for using it.

While I agree that it isn't really necessary, the mod was literally updated yesterday.

I did not know that they had released an update to the mod.
After suffering bad side effects from using it in the past, and seeing the creator of the mod disappear twice.
And reading the posts of others who suffered similar fates, I do not even look at the mod updates anymore.

Someone leaks the beta on here and we get dozens of posts of people bitching that their saves are now broken.
Someone posts the pre-release on here and we get numerous posts complaining that "We WeRe ToLd ThAt XYZ wOuLd HaVe A sCeNe AnD sHe HaSn'T aPpEaRrEd! ThIs WaS a RiPoFf!"
God forbid someone doesn't wait to post the actual release instead of being a premature pirater.
I don't come to futa/trans threads and complain about women with penises. You played a game where you rescue slaves - what did you expect? The slaves to tell you it wasn't that bad? To completely gloss over the fact they were slaves in the first place?Escapism is a thing. In fact, it is the thing people want when engaging with any work of fiction, which includes this game. If you can't grasp that, then why do you even have basic sapience to begin with?

To play the devil's advocate, "you rescue slaves" wasn't part of the story for roughly half of the current content--it represents a pretty marked shift in the story from its earlier releases. You could argue it's implicit from the fact that there are slaves, but I don't think that's necessarily the case (there's no indication that's going to be any part of the story in Realm Invader, for example, though that's still pretty early in development). And even now, you can choose a "slave route" for Nia and Sylvia, though it's becoming increasingly apparent that isn't the favored route.
The arc of the story now is very clearly "free the slaves." But even if that were always Runey's plan, it certainly wasn't apparent for a good while.

Yeah I have it too, just keep a save before the end of the update (or before the whole update) and skip what you already read when the next version releases, can't do anything about that bug for now (and it's fine really, skipping will take seconds)
Rescuing the elven slaves has been part of the content for well over
...and when was the first release? Over seven years ago. Where does the game's description discuss rescuing the slaves? Nowhere--not in the OP on this thread, not on itch, not on Patreon. Only in the OP here is slavery even mentioned (as one of the tags, which by no means even suggests that freeing slaves is any part of the game).
So when you say:
How is someone supposed to know that that's any part of this game, much less (now) the main focus of the game?
It doesn't bother me. I do kind of miss the light-hearted tone of earlier in the game, and hope we'll see more of that, but stories grow. But you seem to be assuming knowledge on the part of a player that the player wouldn't have any reason to have at the start.
