I know that wikipedia isn't good source of information so i will not quote it but if you don't believe me look into russian encyclopedia and you will find my claim correct. Oleg is short for Aleksandr, Olexander, Oleksandr.

The thing is that my name is Alexander, also i am pretty russian, so you know, nothing to do with believing its just how it is. In other slavic countries and in other languages it very well might be connected to Oleg in some way, but not in post-soviet republics
