Well, because he knows exactly that he works at his own very specific pace, and that this sometimes means—or at least has meant repeatedly in the past—that he disappears for a while, goes radio silent, no regular updates, and that this is simply a workflow that, for him personally, obviously works best. The fact that he has been posting relatively regular updates since the last release is actually the first time this has happened to this extent.

But I can easily imagine that he keeps his distance from this forum because it creates an enormous amount of pressure. There are countless expectations, different opinions, hopes for updates, and ideas about how he should behave. And I think he’s the kind of free spirit who quickly feels constrained when he reads too much here or reacts to it.

I’m reminded of another developer who, whenever even the slightest hint of criticism comes up, immediately storms into the forum and drops a massive rant. And I honestly believe that this holds him back rather than helping him become more successful or focus on what really matters. So from that perspective, I can definitely understand it.
I don’t think we actually know him well enough to call him as a “free spirit.” It’s also possible that, even if he works constantly at times, he’s often simply lazy or has lost interest in the game. As far as I remember, before Chapter 9 the releases were much more consistent, with regular weekly progress updates about new chapters.

And pressure, I don’t necessarily see it as something negative. In many cases, pressure can be a good thing, because it forces you to stay aware of your responsibilities and realize when you’re falling behind schedule. Without that pressure, it becomes much easier to lose discipline and momentum.

And this thread isn’t only about pressure and expectation either. After the latest update, you can clearly see how much praise and appreciation he received from the thread

Thing is next update is highly unlikely for her return since Xenorav answered in some comment that she won't return for chapter 11.
Yes, I meant whenever she does return in the subsequent chapters and IF she has worked on her weight. I do think/hope that we are in for a surprise when it comes to Lauren's character.

The man definitely dances to his own beat, and for good reason. I've said it before and I'll say it again that there's a high possibility of him having undiagnosed ADHD (most likely). At least that's my armchair diagnosis of him solely based on the quality of his work and his constant struggles with time management and communication. Even the going to jail, sedentary lifestyle, etc. are the The strengths and weaknesses of a neurodivergent mind are quite apparent when it comes to Xenorav, if only one looks keenly.

The dude dances the line between mind-blowingly high quality of work and mind-bogglingly low quantity of communication.

Yes, pressure could be a great motivator. And he does feel pressure, just that his approach and response are unconventional, for the reasons stated above. Constantly improving his work, going radio silent instead of sharing an underwhelming progress report, pausing payments and increasing the chapter size are all signs of him struggling with the pressure to deliver an unmatched experience to his patrons. I don't think his communication issues are getting fixed anytime soon, no matter how many times he apologizes and promises to be more consistent with (even zero) progress reports. I think at this point, he should make peace with how he works, instead of how he's supposed to work. All in all, I'd say his heart's in the right place, unlike his brain, which is all over the place.
