Introduction:
By far the worst game NTR game I've played, without an ounce of exaggeration. If you want the (extremely) short version here it is: whoever designed this game doesn't understand NTR. So if you're here because you like RPGM games that's irrelevant I guess, but if you're a fan of NTR trust me you want to skip this one.
Now if you want to really understand why I'm saying that, now that I've finished this game let's get to the review: with first the usual criteria for rating games, and then the full version of my earlier remarks.
Graphics/Art: 4/5
There is no "Art" per se except the portraits of the main characters, however those are pretty good (there's multiple versions depending on the context) and we must also take into account that this is a RPGM game, not a VN, and I must say that the use of RPGM assets here is really nice.
The Village (where you will spend 90% of you time in-game) is beautifully crafted, you can tell how much care went into making every single house and landscape to make it feel pretty and welcoming. It's exactly the right size too, it doesn't make the same mistake that other RPGM games have when you get this massive map that's completely soulles ans low-effort. It really gives you this cozy, almost fairytale feeling, and you really want to get lost it in and feel at peace.
It truly makes RPGM shine like no other game has done ( for me at least, I'm not a fan of RPGM usually so I haven't played many of these)
Music: 5/5
About the sound effects first: they're quite basic but used perfectly. Do not underestimate the importance of sound effects in a NTR game: because you dont "see" what's happening most of the time (or at least you character cannot) you rely on them a lot, and a muffled moan or a wet sound at exactly the right moment can be crucial and cause such of whirl of emotions precisely because you're in that "NTR" state of mind. The volume is important too: just loud enough to be heard, to make the character wonder what's happening, but not the same volume as if you were actually there. This game nails all of those aspects imo.
The music is good too, decent enough variety and it helps a lot with the overall atmosphere of the game. That moment when the epic music kicks in when the MC is
I have to admit it blew me away, I wasn't expecting that. Not that it compares to some actual composer music, but I was really pleasantly surprised.
Gameplay/UI: 4/5
There's nothing extraordinary about the gameplay of this game, but once again we have to take into account the context of RPGM (did I already mention how much I hate that engine?) and here the game stands out because unlike most other RPGM titles this game understands that the whole leveling/combat/inventory aspect of RPGM is extremely fucking boring and it makes the wise decision to get rid of it entirely, replacing that with some little mini games.
Now there's nothing particularly good about those, and I have to admit that I still skipped 80% of them because I'm just not a patient person, but I'm not holding that against the game because that's my personal bias.
I truly do think this is the right formula to make RPGM fun and enjoyable, frankly it made me reconsider my opinion about RPGM which is something I thought would never happen.
No choices of any kind until the very end though, not even minor dialogue choices, and although that's RPGM, I still have to remove a point because if that. It just objectively makes the game worse.
Writing/Story: 3/5
(this section will cover only storytelling, not sexual content, you'll soon understand why)
First of all I have to admit that this game does have a high-effort, big-scale, engaging main story which is quite rare for a NTR game. Most NTR games out there have only a very superficial main story, and I wont even get into the "mom fucks you bully" cringe festival.
On the surface it frankly looks top-tier, and for the first few hours of gameplay it actually is, but then you start to notice an increasing number of plot holes (by that I mean objectively bad writing) although it's true that it can be difficult to disentangle that from your own personal bias, so here's a few examples. These do contain minor spoilers (nothing about big main story secrets or anything like that) but that's inevitable to explain my point:
1)
2)
I'm not gonna give any more examples because this is getting extremely long already but there's like at least 5-6 obvious plotholes (that I've noticed, and I've skipped a lot of content) and although I tried at first to ignore them and continue to enjoy the game it really becomes unbearable at some point.
Conclusion:
Now you might have noticed by now that if you add up the grades for all the sections the average shouldn't be 1/5 (unless you're as bad at math as this dev is at making games) so let's clarify that and get into what truly makes this an awful experience.
First of all let's acknowledge that the game is objectively high effort, gets a lot of things right. In fact for a while my expectations were so sky-high that I thought by the end of the playthrough it might make my top-3 best sex games I've ever played. The higher you climb, the harder you fall.
It's important to clarify that I don't hate this game just because it's bad. There's plenty of bad games on this site, stuff that was scrapped together in an afternoon by an amateur dev that never bothered with it again. Those are completely fine with me, they're not even worth a review. I would just delete and move on.
The reason I hate this game is that for the first 18 hours or so of gameplay it is
so damn good. 18h (what it says on the save file in RPGM is playtime, right?) is how long it took me to get to the "pool day" quest (if you played it you know which one it is) which imo is where this game peaks. That was so fucking good. Felt absolutely thrilling for a NTR fan like me.
The reason I hate this game is that it lures you in by being so good until you get into sunk cost fallacy (18h is enough for it to kick in), naturally I hadn't looked anything up because I didn't want spoilers for a story-based game, and then it starts going downhill, and unlike other NTR games it just gets worse and worse until it reaches its awful, repulsive ending.
Yes, we'll have to talk about the endings because it's impossible to explain certain things without mentioning them, although I'll still try to keep spoilers to a minimum.
For those new to it let me explain how good NTR works and why certain people enjoy it. Here's how a good NTR story (game, writing, doesn't matter) usually goes:
-
Phase I: cheating The girl starts cheating, the MC is unaware of it. However you start to get certain little clues: a sound here, a weird stain there, and so on. As time goes on, there get more and more frequent and obvious leading inevitably to phase II.
In this phase, the reason it's enjoyable is because you get that thrill of knowing what's going on as the player, yet you play as a character that doesn't know. Those little clues mean nothing to the MC that is ignorant and naive but they give you really intense feelings as the player because you have that "secret" knowledge (or intuition) that something is going on. Some games push it as far as hiding the sex scenes from you (the player) and letting you use your imagination because sometimes the pleasure of not knowing is actually more intense than the pleasure of knowing (must sound weird if you're not into NTR yet but you'll get it eventually).
An important aspect of that is the relationship between the MC and the cheating character: as you read, you can't help but scan their words, their attitude for little signs of change, and seeing that relationship evolve little by little is what makes it so good.
And in this case, the game absolutely nails phase I. You get a ton of little interactions that get more and more intense with time (as they should), it was an absolute blast to play this.
Phase II: the reveal: This is a key moment, when both the MC and the cheating character become aware of what's happening. The generic way to do this is simple: the cheating girl gets less and less careful about hiding her cheating because she doesn't give a fuck anymore, the MC walks in on them having sex, boom.
It's raw, it's intense, its thrilling. It's the climactic conclusion to the story. The pinnacle of it. What all those little clues and changes were inevitable leading up to. Everything that was tying the characters together, the trust, the emotions, that only existed to better break it all in this crucial moment. I'm not sure how else I can express how important this is. There is a thousand ways to do it of course, but every good NTR game out there has something along those lines at the end of the story.
Then there's also many ways it can go afterwards: the characters have a talk, apologize (soft ending) or the cheating characters mocks MC and reveals her true opinion of him which ends up breaking him (hard ending) and everything in between. But the reveal has to be there.
As you probably guessed at this point, this game
has no reveal. It's like a war story without a final battle, a horror story without a monster, a fairytale without a happy ending. The story is missing what is supposed to be at its core, I dont know how else to phrase it.
What happens instead (and here we have to dig into the endings a bit, I'm sorry, but I'll keep the spoilers light) in what is supposed to be "The NTR ending" is that
Apart from NTR there's also a "wholesome" ending that I didn't try at all (not my jam) and another one which I won't spoil but the writing in there was pretty bad so I played only about half of it.
I guess the last thing to say is that I wrote this review mostly because I wanted some sort of cathartic effect from it, I'm just mad at myself for wasting 27h (the duration of the playthrough, with some skipping) on this garbage game so I thought might as well spend 1h more just to shit on it on this forum lol
