Have you thought about the players who play on Android and the 2GB apk limit? The two games I'm supporting right now are in the process of splitting versions because of that (and the download size). I know Wack Daddy is still far from the apk limit and the "standard 5 GB" limit, but he would have arrived there sooner than later without splitting.Boo to this whole putting the next chapter in a separate version though, boo! Makes no sense for a linear VN, if you're concerned about download sizes just release upgrade packs that include the new images and scripts.
I think we players should be grateful the devs think about ways for the players to continue enjoying their work. And we shouldn't be so selfish and know-it-all as to tell them how they should do their work without knowing all their reasons.
Releasing upgrade packs? Add two releases for the upgrade packs you are asking for (compressed and full quality).
Also release the full ones for the players who don't have download limit, right? I count 5 versions right now (PC, Mac, Android, PC compressed, Mac compressed).
And another one for Android second book/season (because the apk limit).
And why don't add to the mix the web version and the iOS version? 10 versions.
Are you going to compile them, upload them, maintain them? Or are you going to complain about the dev taking 2 extra days between releases because of all the extra work you are asking him to do?
Are you going to complain if your game gets corrupted after chapter 15 and you should download chapter 11 and 4 upgrade packs? You can say you don't have any limit, so you can download the full version, but can every player do it?
I see you have been around longer than me, and I'm surprised that you can't think about all of these reasons to not release only upgrade packs nor care about the players who can't download a big file over 5GB or play on Android.
I don't have the 5 GB limit. I don't have an Android to play in. What I have is a bit of empathy for other players. You don't seem to.
