Just started the game, and I am not a
gambling addict genshin player, so if anyone can answer a few questions about how the elements works that would be very much appreciated:
- are certain enemies weak against certain elements or elemental reactions? I see that, for example, dvalin has ameno resistance, but in my fight with hilichurl archers of equal stats, vaporize seemed to out-damage stuff like corrosion, which are not anemo-related.
- do certain units innately have an element that is always present for reactions? sometimes I see reactions that is procc'ed by a single attack and I am not certain why.
- what is the effect of shield elements? do they grant resistance
- more generally, how is damage calculated? my 290 atk lawachurl deals 3 damage per hit against a 240 def eye of the storm, while I seem to remember instances where the attacker has less atk than the defender has def while still dealing decent (non-elemental) damage.
- when forming a unit, there is 2 atk stat if there are units attached to the leader; what does the second number affect?

I am currently at the crane and buck fight in hard difficulty, and this this as my roster I have not found a combo that deals reasonable damage against them; same with the eyes of the storms that venti has.

Okay, I am a Genshin player (and quite a fan, I guess).
1. Yes, elemental beings are usually strong against their own element. I haven't heard anything about being strong against elemental reactions, but elemental reactions are not born equal. The main difference being between elemental reactions that multiply existing damage, like Vaporize, and create a new instance of damage, like Overload.
Nycto is not an element in Genshin Impact (although the influence of the Abyss is present in many forms, some of them damaging), and so I can't tell you much about their reactions.
2. Some particularly pure elemental creatures, like slimes, innately have their own element applied to them. A few other enemies can apply their own element to themselves, in particular Barbara is prone to that.
And I heard that in this game, slimes attached to a unit can apply additional elements to attacks, much like enemy adventurers can do it.
I'm not sure if it's already in the game, but terrain may apply elements too.
3. Shields (except for Geo shields) take less damage from their own element, and are best defeated by elements that cause elemental reactions with them.
4. I don't know. This is not Genshin Impact, after all.
From what I heard, difficulty levels change how this calculation is done. So it should be a more straightforward calculation on Normal difficulty.
5. I think the first number is attack power of leader alone, while the second number is with their support group. As enemies take out supports, the group's attack power will diminish.
With eyes of the storm, try basic elements: Pyro (fire), Cryo (ice), Hydro (water) and Electro (lightning).
Adepti Moon Carver (stag) and Mountain Shaper (crane) are NPCs in Genshin Impact, and their powers are not well-known. Except that they are very strong. But Hilichurls' Ambition puts many other beings within Hilichurls' reach, including other adepti, so it should be possible to fight them. Just know that they are supposed to be this strong.
