well, rofl... yeah.

I said it before, i didnt liked the update...

DB admitted it himself in a patreon post after uploading this episode, and its very clear if you play this update and the last one too... he lost his passion for the project. So did i... Hillside was a favorite for me, was a sup until this update. He has to win me over again, but i doubt it will be the case.

In fact, all considered, we are even heading to an "on hold" tag soon and abondoned in the future. I just cant see it anymore that DB is willing to finish this game in a satisfying way. Like the whole thing goes, we are maybe halfway through now. I dont see that he will get that "spark" again... the last two episodes had a strange pace and kinda bad writing too, everything felt very rushed and not thaught through. Not surprising though if you know that Darkblue lost his passion about the game, it becomes clear if you play the last two episodes. There is a huge difference to the first 7-8 episodes i think, where you can still see that "he loved" to make the game and write content about Charlotte and Emma... but not anymore. And once this is the case, i dont believe in "comebacks"

Well at least he is an honest DEV, didnt hide the fact he needs a break (in fact never hid it before too, so thumps up for that) and paused the billig more than once in the past too if he didnt felt it. But yeah the direction has become pretty clear to me... Hillside will be abondoned one day i think. Maybe during 2023.
This is a problem with a lot of devs... How many of these VNs have started out great, only to fade into mediocrity. It's the same with a lot of things. Remember the TV show LOST? That was the best show ever made... for the first 3 seasons... then it started to suck ass. I just think people either start to lose their passion or they had a great idea to begin with, but never thought through the ending.

Maybe he should bring on a new writer or get someone to help. That might infuse a burst of passion for a bit. I hope he continues it tho.

I never liked LOST... was written all over the place, like everything from JJ Abrams.

With the Patreon format i also think there's an incentive to keep the story progress extra slow, concluding a game and moving to a new project is a risk, some devs even seen to think giving what the players want will too early affect the bottom line down the road.
All this contributes to a fall into mediocrity.

Hm, I actually don't think this update was bad in any sense of what others have commented here.
It progressed the story a lot, and Charlotte's reaction was perfectly understandable.
I think we are desensibilized to killing through on-screen violence, but it is a completely different animal in reality.
Sure, the fuckhead deserved it, and even if he lost his knife, he was still dangerous, as a cop, he would probably have a gun on him somewhere as well, so the MC's actions were justified, but for Charlotte, not only was it perfectly normal to question if killing was really necessary at this point, considering that the cop seemed to be beaten, but she also saw someone she came to care about and who her daughter sees as family by now, kill someone in cold blood.

I think in reality, everyone would start questioning what happened on every level, both personal and professional, both in regard to wanting someone capable of this in your house or even in your heart.

That being said, I have had this problem several times with the game now, Emma is just too naive and innocent for her age.
It just makes no sense and I can't keep up my suspension of disbelief, to see someone her age constantly sit on her mother's lab and acting like a 12-13 year old kid.
I know that this would have opened a whole other can of worms, but she should either be younger or less of a naive kid. She really comes off as having serious mental issues from time to time, as if she's not all up there at times.

But apart from that I still like the game a lot and hope darkblue finds his groove again so to speak. Maybe, and I don't say this lightly, stepping away from the project for a while and doing something different could have a positive result.
Of course, it could also backfire, but so can forcing yourself to work on something, where you feel frustrated and unsatisfied.

But thats the wrong way about going on patreon...

You should (or at least i do) support those projects you like and the DEV says it would be. I ahve explicit expectations than, and if a DEV cant deliver them, i just cancel the sup... (and in those expectations the development time is falling too of course)

To sup a project that doesnt have sex in it, and never was about sex (explicit told by the DEV early on) and than complain about it... is just... meh.

As DEV than to try deliver on that part is dumb too i guess... stick to your plan, if you cant or dont have plan... well... thats meh too.

But Hillside have a good amount of patrons... the numbers were growing and growing. And as i recall it, the complains on the page wasnt about lack of lewd content... more like not satisfied with the overall progress storywise and some serious plotholes lately. Most people who were complaining got the impression that Darkblue pretty much winged the whole thing the last 3-4 episodes or did it from the beginning, and didnt have a complete plan for the story and how he wanted to end the thing...

For me it was more about the problem i saw that he isnt into the work anymore and tried to bite off more than he can chew before that and i got the feeling he doesnt know how to deal with branching. And branching was becoming an issue only now in the last 3-4 episodes, not before. Although i noticed he got distraced by many things he wanted to do but couldnt do it. Like Animations... he was already dead set on it to do animations... he made a poll about a year ago to see if many patrons wanted to have animations. That was one of a very few times where i said something. That i dont think it would be a good idead to deal with those if youre a not familiar with doing animations. Of course you can learn those things from scratch (he wanted to do so) but its really not easy and needs an HUGE amount of time and hardware power too. At that point i began to think that Darkblue wanted to deliver something "bigger" with big animations, over the top looking renders and such... Of course, if you see games like... from Phillygames, DrPinkcake or Oceanlab... i can understand that you want to deliver something like that too. But dont bite more off than you can chew (to quote me from earlier). And i think Darkblue did just that... he wanted to try it, saw he cant do it, and to me... i think that was a breaking point. The timing would fit too... he "lost" his passion about that time too where he considered to bring in animations and wanted to put higher quality renders out in general. Never did that though.

To me the renders are more than fine, and i never needed animations. 99% of the games with animations just do short loops with weird speed too... they are more annoying than enjoyable. There are some games with incredible animations... most of them are only about them though, animated fap scenes, well for those, i can watch porn. Games that can deliver in writing, good characters, give you some immersion AND awesome animations? Well i couldnt count more than maybe 10 games on this site who can deliver in everything in high quality. And those take really much time for an update too. But yeah... to achive that you have to reach for the very top, if you try and have to be honest with yourself that you cant do that... maybe that can cause a break in passion.

This could be an explanation too why Darkblue lost it during the ride...

Of course i dont know. Nobody does except him.

Losing passion for something is a complete natural thing though. we all did at some point with different things. To admit it and move on is not that easy for most people... especially if money is on the plate too.

I think Darkblue is dealing with it the right way. Admit it that he doesnt want to work at least for some time on the project, and will see how he is going from there. sometimes you can explain to yourself why you dont want to do some things not anymore.

That was... an update. Wasn't bad, just weird?

As mentioned before, the police stuff wasn't done well. It was all too obvious and so much stuff that should of never happened. Everything about that segment was just too out there. The Charlotte and Emma stuff was alright, though felt a bit flippy at times. But over all that was decent.

That sex scene though (Lucy path). That felt so awkward. Like it didn't fit at all into the game. Maybe it is just me, but it felt too hardcore for what type of game Hillside is. Maybe a more softcore/romantic playful style would have worked better. Plus, all that build up for it, and it just ended so abruptly. And she kept her shirt on the whole time. Just felt like a quick romp in the sack instead of a couple's first time together.

At least we finally got to tell someone about the relationship. So now Suzi knows. What was weird though, is you tell Emma that you have a girlfriend, yet she is still trying to get you together with Charlotte regardless.

Either way, thanks DB and sorry that you're experiencing burnout. Hope the break will help you gain that spark once again to continue this great game. Thanks again. :)

really great, I loved it,

it's nice to have a real story!! it's true there's not a lot of sex ,

but hey, with everything that happened, it might not have been the right time,

I think the next update will start to move forward for Charlotte.

Hillside might have been one of the best adult games if it had at least a little bit of sex and some kink. Zero. My life too isn't so boring.
Fr lmao. I just hope Charlotte tells the MC to stay and they end up sleeping together lol

So far the only scene is with Lucy right? I think there will be a Kaylah scene and maybe a Charlotte scene far off in the future
