Some thoughts about "upgrading" Daz environment assets vs. the realities of a Ren'Py game in development for 6.5+ years...
Ducky,
Junior, and others have addressed how infeasible it would be to retroactively change a location asset (environment) with existing "integrated" scenes (rather than "background + sprites" scenes), which would result in only incremental aesthetic improvements at most, with no actual new content created. Honestly, the existing assets contribute to the flavor of the game to date. I do tend to agree that the night bar has kind of a "70s retro-porn" vibe, but I'm totally fine with that.
On the other hand, if
Darkhound happens to be intrigued at the prospect of putting some new/different environment assets to use, there are some ways he could do that while also simultaneously adding new content.
- Existing resort facilities could get add-ons; for example, the night bar could get a dance floor add-on, the pool area could get a hot-tub add-on, etc. This could be done in a way that would not impact the existing scene renders (in the vicinity, but out of the line of sight for existing renders). The add-ons could either be general-access like the beach bar or the shower in the gym, or limited-access like the green room in the night bar or the photo studio.
- Related to the preceding option would be to temporarily move the denizens of the resort to another location (yacht, or ???) while the resort undergoes a remodel. This would make it possible to use a new asset for the night bar, or the pool area, or guest rooms, etc. It would also make possible resort-level add-ons, like adding a dance club, game room, movie theater, etc. These could also either be general-access or limited-access.
- There is also a lot of potential for discovering previously-undiscovered areas, particularly in the underground facility and on the island but off-resort. These would be more likely to be limited-access, but could go either way.
For any of these to work and to really be feasible, there would need to be some sort of "transition event", so that all of the existing content would be fully available up to the transition event (Holiday Island, Part I), and everything post-transition event would be new content (Holiday Island, Part II). It might be possible in Part II to have similar content to Part I that incorporates the new assets, but it would also give
Darkhound the opportunity to do new things without necessarily being anchored to 6+ years of established content.
Just some food for thought; and of course, subject to
Darkhound's preferences and plans.
TL/DR...
