I don't think I've ever seen this triggered. Is this a different event from flipping her out of the tube when playing in the pool?

Yup, Joy's cloning experiment failed and there is, as before, only one darkhound1. One person with a full time job and works on Holiday Island when he has time and feels like it. Be thankful that this is one of the few games that does regularly update and the developer actually takes the time to keep us informed when the next update will occur.
