Version 0.2.3 beta - development news (updated 06. September 2020)

Hi guys and gals, this post offers you a collection of news about the next full version of Holiday Island (0.2.3 beta) and the smaller updates towards it.​

There will be smaller, more frequent content updates, called content addons. They will include bug fixes and new content as well.
The change log below is based on the beta 0.2.2.0 release.​

The next release is 0.2.2.2 beta which will be an incremental update for Windows, Linux and Mac. It will include some new features and some bug fixes as well.​

As of right now, the update from 0.2.2.0 to 0.2.2.2 has:
196 additional renders, videos or sound files
0 updated renders​

New features and content

• A new location, the underground lab and infirmary will be introduced with two new special characters --> still working on it
• A new scene when the MC jogs at the beach and hurts himself will be added. It's a scene with Miriam that leads to the discovery of the underground lab --> still working on it
• Mercedes gets an event where she works out at night as part of her quest line --> still working on it
• Brenda gets the pool sunbed and pool pose scenes --> still working on it
• Heather gets an extended event with 3 achievements where she visit your room asking for sun lotion --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• Renée gets an extended pool play scene with 3 achievements --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• Mercedes will be overlooking the pool during the day and you can talk and interact with her (a long scene with 3 achievements) --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• Yvette gets an additional arrival scene when she has been the plane girl --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• Yvette can be the plane girl and she gets an extended scene on the plane --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• An intro quest line with 19 steps has been added, that will trigger when you arrive on the island. It will teach new players some of the game mechanics --> will be part of 0.2.2.2

Minor improvements and changes

• The probability for short events in the player room have been lowered. The more often you have seen them, the lower the probability to get them again --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• In case you miss an appointment, the girl you stood up will get angry and send you a text. Next time you talk with her, she will also complain about it --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• The save and load slots will get numbers on them for easier navigation --> will be part of 0.2.2.2
• The initial girl selection process has been newly coded from scratch. This includes the selection of the plane girl and the initial island population. As a result, this should make the general experience of the first couple of in game days much better. Especially if you mainly selected low tier girls. --> will be part of 0.2.2.2

Bug fixes

• When you have no sun lotion, Faye's sun lotion scene at the pool will crash with: 'cl_character' object has no attribute 'swimwwear' --> will be fixed with 0.2.2.2

Is the update going to break save games?

0.2.2.1 beta --> Save games from 0.0.8 and later can still be used. Earlier saves are no longer supported.
0.2.2.2 beta --> same as for 0.2.2.1​

Managed to take a stealthy photo.

Joy needs to be wearing certain clothes and also you need some luck to continue.
Tip: before going into her office save and then if you don't continue to the last scene with Joy, you could go back and try again

I believe it needs to be her blue suit. At least that was it for me.

Ah, yes, it took a few tries, but it was the blue suit.

I was thrown off by the hint that said "100% the first time".
Actually, it's more like "100% of 1/5"

You could always get the hair color right by doing what Yvette did for Hotshots, temporary spray in color, just sayin'! Nevertheless, still a GREAT picture!

I could have, yes, but that was not my aim.

Alice and Heather both stay Alice and Heather in looks when they dress up.
They do not change their hair color or cut in the game.

So I decided to stay in character. Therefore it is a Alice cosplay render.
She is not trying to be Lara Croft, but Alice Croft (if that makes sense).

Now mind you, all that said, I am as curious as the next person

And when a setup works (not a cheap exercise in time to get to that point, unless one accept the off the shelf quality, which can be anywhere from good to horrible) it is comparatively easy to modify it in numerous ways.

So I have of course done tests with her as darker haired, see through, swimsuits and what not.
But the blonde version looks better.

And thanks, I like it rather a lot too, both because it works but also because it is a big step up in the maximum technical difficulty I can manage to do when I put in the time (9 hours) and effort.

You are not wrong, it came out in 0.2.2.1 and the last update of the Guide was 0.2.2.0. The next Guide update will probably be 0.2.2.2 as there will be a fair amount of new content, like Mercedes at the pool.

As for the Joy scene ... I forget at times, what seems obvious to me, (like saving your game and trying again with different variables, wardrobe, stats, etc.) are not common to a lot of players that want a step-by-step walkthrough. It's a balancing act as to how much to include in the Guide. That's something Puppet Master and I disagreed on. I didn't want to spend the time to write, format and include every possible Appointment, Event, Scene (that make up the achievements) in the Guide and turn it into 300+ pages. Especially since most players do not bother to read it.

Yvette: Well, I was hoping you might have a pill or something to help me sleep, I have been having nightmares of late.

Joy: I see, why don't you go visit some of the regulars? I'm sure they would be happy for you to spend the night and they could comfort you.

Yvette: That's just it, I have done that and now there is only yankeeInKy left and I have been avoiding him.

Joy: Yvette, I explained everything to you about the island when I hired you. You can't purposely avoid players. Why exactly are you trying to avoid Yankee? Sure, there have been some complaints about his choice of music, but that isn't a good enough reason.

Yvette: Yes, I know and even though he and Faye have helped me with my dancing, together they kind of scare me. You know the 'Goth Look' isn't a good one for me. Faye and I also had that whole same bikini thing we had to fake our way through. Not to mention that the last time I cleaned his room I was pooped on!

Joy: What?!?!??

Yvette: Well that's what Yankee called it. Really it was just his coffee grinder exploding, but it made an awful mess. I've tried visiting some of the others, yet that really hasn't worked out either.

Joy: Do explain ...

Yvette: Well Junior366 is nice enough, but when he and I had dinner that one time, Yumiko grabbed a knife and cornered me in the kitchen and told me it was a 'one-time' deal only or else. I'm not sure she was serious, but I'm not taking any chances. I've heard the way she talks about Eva and better 'Safe, than Sorry' I always say.

Joy: Well what about SiJa?

Yvette: He's English, and the French and English kind of have a history of not getting along. Also, I think he has a food fetish, which is kind of icky. Besides his obsession with tea, we all know you had to postpone the Ice Cream Social when all the toppings went missing. Amy and Alice may deny it, but we all know that was their boobs covered in sprinkles and chocolate.



Joy: Yes, I saw the photos and already spoke with them. What about Bantry? Sure he's older and kind of a curmudgeon, but he seems pretty harmless.

Yvette: True, he always treats me kindly, but well ...

Joy: Well what?

Yvette: I can't find his new room and even if I could, the last time I knocked on his door, Delizia answered. She made it very clear that Bantry was hers and if I didn't respect that, I would end up like Mittens!

Joy: Mittens? Who's Mittens? Never mind. The island isn't perfect, but my work is the most important thing and I will not have it interrupted. There is no pill to make people sleepy and my work has moved past the pill stage anyway. Promise me you'll visit Yankee at least once. Then I would suggest you spend more time hanging out with DuckSwim and Darkhound.

Yvette: <heavy sigh> Okay, I promise. Even if Dark is too busy creating, writing, coding, etc. Duck will have time for me and he always makes me laugh.
