So uh... what do you have to give to the other homeless dude to get lessons from them? I have food and drinks in my inventory but I still get "I need to give him something" if I try to talk to him.

he pretty much upgrades your skills,
5 is the max upgrade.

After Harumi runs away you go to the comic book shop first to see if she's there and then to xx-mart can't remember if it's a certain time of day that you need to go the xx-mart but she'll be there and you followed her back to her house.
