Hey guys! I'm using HS2 studio specifically to make hi res movie scenes (regular scenes like how in gameplay trailers/CGI trailers). But despite cranking everything to the max in terms of visual fidelity, I see that the environment models look low poly. Can someone help me with details on how to increase the visual quality of maps?

Here's one rendition I made to showcase the glaring visual disparity between the character model (with next gen shaders) and the rather low visual quality of the surrounding

If it's a pre-made map you're stuck with it. If you make the maps your self with a LOT of work you can export the textures for each item and retexture/upscale them yourself but that only goes so far. In the end it's illusion we're talking about they put very little effort into most of their games. Some maps by modders are leagues above others though, you just need to look around.

Ah yes, that makes sense! I will keep a look around for high poly maps.

I had another question. Are there any mods that you might know of that can include particle effects? Like fog, rain, cloud smoke etc? I could possibly use the volumetric effects of light to induce a more cinematic effects in the videos. FYI, I have the next gen shaders already installed.

The next gen shaders are going to have like no effect on anything aside from characters and maybe clothing. It has nothing to do with how the game's graphics on a whole are rendered. There should already be a list of particle effects in the add section. This is only studioneo mind you, they didn't make it to be some ultimate animation software. If your looking for all of those options you're probably better off diving into blender or maya.

Ah got it! Yes I did dabble with blender a while back but then the free asset library for blender was very low. Then I dabbled in the hs1 studio neo (with the timeline editor) and now I'm looking to make the foray into hs2's studio neo. The amazing part is the vast library of assets thats available.

Hey bud, so this is what I was talking about when it comes to the weird loss in visual quality between the purportedly well made map and the noticeable downgrade whenever I import it onto studio neo. Tried my best to tinker with the image quality but mine (1st image) always looks like a crudely drawn rendition of the actual map (2nd one)

The second one looks like it was made from the game The order 1886

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting some of the lighting settings?
If you hit F5 for graphics mode there are a lot of lighting adjustments you can make and you can save and import different lighting presets. I may be wrong but the 1st picture looks like the lighting has a heavy amount of red. Maybe toning it down could get closer to the 2nd picture.

Wow, thanks! I'm not entirely sure if I rectified the problem entirely, but looks like the "color gradient" option was on which was giving it that reddish hue experience. I was playing around with the settings and got it to this now. Just a side note, when I used the rendering path to "deferred" instead of "forward" which made the stillborn inside the jar more visible but otherwise toned down some of the visual quality. I dont know if that helps with determining the root cause of the problem. Thanks, appreciate you helping out.

Which one should I download if I just want the base game? I want to manually mod it
Suggest using the latest Better Repack version which is 15. Link is on page 1 of this thread. Highly recommend using the Torrent download rather than the split pack. It will take a long time to download and is a big file but it is worth it. Each time I download a new BR version I let it run overnight.
Also recommend storing the game somewhere away from C drive and renaming the directory to something short and recognisable e.g. D:/HS2 BR15/. I don't know the technical reasons why but this tends to avoid problems.
There is an optional mod pack you can download but I would suggest you stick to the main game first and come back for that if you want later. It is big.
The game itself is only part of the fun. I don't play it much anymore but used to spend more time in Character Maker and Studio NEO.
Best of luck

There is (or certainly used to be something that you could download that would upgrade your Steam download to be like the Better Repack.
I'm not sure where to find it or even if it still exists (I haven't been active in HS2 for sometime and some of the download pages look quite different to how I remember them).
I would imagine it will be somewhere here assuming it still exists

If you want to make games from it the latest Better Repack would probably be better. See other recent replies in this thread for where to find that and recommended approach and the possible Steam to Better Repack link if you choose to go that route.

I would imagine if you want to make games you will need to use Studio NEO and soem of the amazing capabilities that has. I've only managed some basic storytelling types of things using VNGE in it (click to proceed to next scene or moving onto next scene after a certain duration). There are some much more advanced ways of doing things though.
Someone on Yuki Portal (can't remember the user) developed some games where character next actions were determined by roll of dice, rock / paper / scissors, snakes and ladders board, etc..

You're probably thinking of the HF patch. It has a bunch of mods included but many of them are optional during the install.

I found a couple of the Yuki Portal games I was referring to in my previous answer

The creator made some other ones as well so here is their page as well

Might be worth downloading and studying what they did to learn from it.

Hey guys! Here's a rough excerpt of an episode-based web series Im currently making (using HS2's studio neo) . I have rendered/filmed most of my scenes and I'm currently in the process of post production (editing/voice clips etc). Before I publish the web series (starting with ep 1 and 2) in its entirety, I wanted some suggestions on how I could possibly improve the overall production quality of my series. Specifically, any special effects I could possibly include in my videos.

View attachment BTST draft.mp4

In the above video, I wanted to include some form of shrouded smoke/fog effects to herald the introduction of one of the leads with a zoom in and from the way it looks right now, the intro looks a bit...nondescript? The closest i could get in terms of post production effects was some fire effects and one misty blue effect from a glove (called demon fist glove; I was able to occlude the glove entirely and parse just the blue effect for some scenes)

If any one of y'all could guide me or perhaps let me know of any mods/effects files that you might have (or refer some existing mods) that will help a great deal!

FYI- I'm using Movavi for post production.

They are all optional, as it says. You add them to the main game folder if you want to use any of them. And no, nothing can be done about the performance in the scenes with your GPU.

The optional mods are really just extra plugins. In the optional mods folder there are BepinEx folders, copy the ones you want and paste them into the main folder where the HS2 exe is.
