A systematic and organized numbering that correlates the state of the game would be nice, but build number format is definitely not where it should be. Devs with the same mindset as you inflate the build number to make the game look more complete or realize that they have more to add, continue to inflate the minor numbers, which makes the project look like a mess.
Quickie Hotel is on version 0.38, but it's two updates from completion. And if they hold up, 0.39 is feature complete, while 1.0 is bug fixes and polish. And each update has been properly archived.
38 updates is a lot. A lot of games with the 0.4s and 0.5 don't even have ten updates.
